Eddy Wally has set his mind on Eurosong 2006. The 73 year-old singer announced his participation in the Flemish selections for the Belgian Eurovision Song Contest representative for Athens today. The Voice of Europe, as his nickname sounds, is a living legend in Flanders.

Eddy Wally is feeling better than ever since he recovered from cancer. “Now, after my illness, I'm having more ambition than before,” he says in an interview with Flemish newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen. “Let them laugh. I'm always the one to laugh last. It has always been like that.

Eddy Wally, who is celebrating his 73th birthday today, broke through in Flanders in the 60s. More than 40 years later the singer has performed all over Western Europe, in Russia, China and the United States. At the end of 2005, Eddy Wally will be leaving for America again where he will be giving a handful of concerts.

Eddy believes in his chances. “Watch out. Eddy Wally is bigger than ever! And If I lose, I'll keep smiling. Because even then the contracts will come in…” In case he makes it through the selections for Eurosong 2006, Flanders will see their living legend bidding for representing Belgium in Athens.

Songs for Eurosong 2006 can be submitted to Flemish broadcaster VRT until 28th September. In December the selected participants will be announced at a press conference.
