French singer of Moroccan descent Sofia Mestari, the 2000 French Eurovision representative, is currently working on new material to sign her big comeback under the sportlights later in 2013. The young artist will even give a new concert on 21 March in the French city of Joué-lès-Tours.
Discovered thanks to her victory at the French national final organised at the Olympia music hall in Paris with the song On aura le ciel, her poor result later on in Stockholm kind of dampened her hopes for a successful career. Nevertheless, Sofia Mestari did release no less than 4 albums, the latest in 2011 with very little media attention, and even managed to gained some popular success with songs such as Ce que tu m’as fait and especially the track Ne pars pas which peaked at #27 in the French music charts back in 2003.
Sofia Mestari counts singers Tracy Chapman, Sting and Aretha Franklin as her idols. Very discreet, working hard on her image and on her music style with her particular deep-broken voice, Sofia Mestari is currently putting the final touch on her next album which will hopefully bring her the success she deserves.
A snippet of one of the new songs she is recording together with the French author and composer Arno Santamaria is already available. Titled Ecoute-les parler, the new song is clearly indicating the artistic direction of Sofia Mestari’s forthcoming album.
