The deadline to submit an application to Moldova’s national selection for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest passed yesterday, Thursday at 18.00 local time. A record number of songs were received byt the Moldovan broadcaster.
A professional jury will decide now the artists who will compete in the national final and the songs which will be available in the song base.
The method in Moldova this year is based on having separate selections for the song and the artist.
The Moldovan broadcaster TRM revealed the total number of submissions today. A new record was set in the Eastern European country as they received a total number of 175 applications: 126 songs and 49 singers.
Songs were received from countries including Moldova, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Canada and the USA.
A professional jury will now listen to all the submitted songs on and will decide how many of them will qualify for the final song base. Auditions will be then held for the participating singers. During the first five days after the auditions take place, the finalists will pick up a song from the song base.
Moldova’s representative in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be decided on 2 March.
