The Swedish broadcaster SVT have announced today that the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 will take place in the city of Malmö at the newly opened Malmö Arena. According to the executive producer of the 2013 contest, it wasn’t an easy decision as they received proposals from the capital city Stockholm and Malmö.

The two semi finals and the grand final of next year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be held at the Malmö Arena, a hall with a total capacity of 15,500. This isn’t the first time that Europe’s favorite TV show is held in the city of Malmö, the 1992 edition being held at the Malmö Isstadion.

“Now the work starts on one of the biggest music shows in Europe to create an amazing event. We are obviously extremely proud and happy today,” says Ilmar Reepalu, Mayor of Malmö.

Sweden won the right to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 after Loreen’s ‘Euphoria’ conquered the hearts of the Europeans.
