Soren Torpegaard, the Danish Eurovision 2026, has decided to sing his Eurovision entry in Danish at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna.
There has been a heated debate in Denmark wether Soren Torpegaard Lund should sing his Eurovision entry in Danish or English. The decision has been made! Soren will sing his Eurovision song ‘For vi gar hjem’ in Danish. It is the first time since 2021 that Denmark sends a song in Danish to the Eurovision Song Contest.
Denmark is currently leading the betting odds at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 at #3 just behind Finland and Greece.
Soren Torpegaard Lund was crowned the winner of DGMP 2026 and will have the grand honor of defending the Danish colors at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest in Austria with ‘For vi gar hjem’.
Erik Struve Hansen (Dansk Melodi Grand Prix Program Manager/ DR) says:
We are extremely proud that Søren Torpegaard Lund takes to the stage in Vienna with ‘Før vi går hjem’ exactly as it was written: in Danish. Søren writes and sings from the heart – and his feelings, dreams and stories live strongest in his own language.
Soren Torpegaard Lund says:
It has been my wish from the start. The song is written in Danish, and it has always been my dream to try to take something Danish all the way to Eurovision. So it has not been a difficult choice for me.
Soren Torpegaard Lund adds:
I have always been open to the idea that singing in English might be something. That’s why we have also investigated what an English version could look like. But I have always been able to feel that there was something authentic about the Danish version, which struck me the most – and probably also struck everyone else the most.
Soren Torpegaard Lund concludes:
Of course I’ve had my doubts, and I’ve also thought: “Are we shooting ourselves in the foot now?” But I’ve come to the conclusion that I’d rather shoot myself in the foot with something I believe in than try to win with something I can’t quite feel.
