RUV, the Iceland national broadcaster, has extended the song submission deadline for Söngvakeppnin 2026.

The song submission deadline for the Icelandic national selection has been extended until the results of EBU’s vote on Israel’s participation at ESC 2026 are known.

RUV has released the following statement:

The Song Contest 2026 deadline has been extended until the results of EBU vote on Israel’s participation in Eurovision are known in early November. The submission deadline will be announced later.

Iceland has kicked off preparations for Söngvakeppnin 2026 and opened the song submission window for the competition. RUV, the Icelandic national broadcaster is yet to confirm its participation at Eurovision 2026.

Iceland intends to compete at Eurovision 2026 but with reservations and might withdraw if Israel is not excluded from the competition.

The EBU is set to vote a vote on Israel’s participation in early November via an extraordinary general assembly where all EBU members will vote on the matter.

Due to the current global geopolitical scenario the EBU has decided to extend the final confirmation deadline from October to December. Hence broadcasters have until mid December to confirm their participation or withdraw their application without suffering a financial penalty.

Iceland at Eurovision

Iceland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986 and is yet to win the competition.The Nordic country has competed 37 times in the contest. Iceland achieved it’s best results in the contest in 1999 and 2009 when it placed second.

In 2025 VAEB represented Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest with their entry ‘ROA’.
