RTvE, the Spanish national broadcaster, has announced that it will be not broadcast the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest if Spain doesn’t participate in the contest next year.

Earlier today RTVE released a statement regarding Spain’s participation at Eurovision 2026 stating that Spain will withdraw from the competition if Israel continues to compete in the contest.

Hereafter RTVE confirmed during its afternoon news bulletin that it will not broadcast the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest if Spain withdraws from the contest. This would be the very first time that Spain would be missing out on partaking in the contest and not broadcasting too, as the country is one of the very few countries which has competed in the contest every year since its debut.

The EBU has given broadcasters an extension until mid December to make their final decision on competing at ESC 2026 or withdraw their application without suffering a financial penalty.

The 2026 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 12, 14 and 16 May in Vienna, Austria.

Spain debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 and has won the event twice. In 2025 Melody represented Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel with her entry ‘Esa Diva‘.
