The Innsbruck City Council has approved the ESC 2026 hosting project and the funding of the competition if it wins the bid.
Austria and ORF are gearing up in full steam for the forthcoming 2026 Eurovision edition. Preparations for ESC 2026 are well and truly on the way. Vienna and Innsbruck are battling for the coveted role of hosting Europe’s favorite television show. ORF is expected to unveil the 2026 ESC Host City in the second half of August.
Currently the Austrian national broadcaster is negotiating with Vienna and Innsbruck the two cities which are bidding to host the competition next year.
The Innsbruck City Council convened yesterday and voted for the funding of the ESC 2026 and hosting project. The City Council approved the submitted application and the financial framework for hosting ESC 2026. 22 councilors voted in favour whilst 18 voted against.
The City of Innsbruck has partnered with Tourism and Business stakeholders in order to finance the ESC 2026 hosting.
The City of Innsbruck is bidding to host the 70th Eurovision Song Contest under the motto- Together on Top with the Olympia Halle as the venue to host the contest. The Olympia Halle can accomodate circa 12,000 spectators.
The Mayor of Innsbruck Johannes Anzengruber says:
We have succeeded in setting up a great financing together with tourism and the business sectors. The share of the two partners is also greater than that of the city. This was the decisive point, Innsbruck could not afford it alone. This way it is both doable and feasible.
