RTVE, the Spanish national broadcaster has announced that Cesar Vallejo will be the new Spanish Head of Delegation at Eurovision.

Cesar Vallejo will be taking over as the Spanish Head of Delegation from Ana Maria Bordas who will be now presiding the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 Reference Group. Ana Maria Bordas has been the Spanish Head of Delegation from 2017-2021 and from 2023-2025.

Cesar Vallejo is no new face when it comes to the Eurovision Song Contest as he has been part of the Spanish delegation for more than a decade assuming different roles. He is also the co-director of Benidorm Fest and has played a key in the inception and development of Benidorm Fest and will the leading the the project in its upcoming 5th edition next year.

RTVE has appointed Cesar Vallejo as the new Spanish Head of Delegation thanks to his great experience, professionalism and talent.

César Vallejo has been appointed as the new Head of the Spanish Delegation at the Eurovision Song Contest. Currently the Deputy Director of Premieres at RTVE Play , he will take on the role while continuing to lead the Benidorm Fest, which has become the main showcase for Spanish music.

His appointment comes at a key moment for Spain’s Eurovision strategy, aiming to strengthen a solid, ambitious artistic direction that is closely connected with national talent. According to Vallejo, “with this new chapter, we aim for each edition of Benidorm Fest and each Eurovision participation to bring us closer to that balance between artistic quality, international impact, and collective pride.”

He replaces Ana María Bordas, who has assumed her new position as Chair of the Eurovision Reference Group of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) , the key decision-making body of the contest. Bordas led the Spanish delegation from 2017 and will remain involved in the project through this new high-level international role.

With over two decades of experience at RTVE, César Vallejo has proven strong managerial skills and a keen sensitivity to the evolution of the music industry. He has worked on the creation and direction of documentaries, music specials, live galas, and high-impact cultural programs. In addition to his creative background, he served as RTVE’s special correspondent at Eurovision on several occasions, covering the festival from various perspectives including production, television storytelling, scenography, and digital strategy. His experience provides him with a deep understanding of the European contest from within.

Having been involved in the artistic development of the Benidorm Fest since its first edition,  César Vallejo plans to bring a renewed, inclusive, and demanding vision to the festival’s fifth edition. This way, RTVE is committed to maintaining unified and coherent strategies throughout all phases of the Eurovision process.

His career has earned recognition such as the International Journalism Award Rey de España for the documentary series Nosotrxs Somos and the Iris Award for directing La 2 Noticias. He has spearheaded transmedia projects, platform-specific content, and social media interaction strategies, all key to engaging younger audiences and adapting to new audiovisual consumption trends.

Vallejo highlights that RTVE’s recent experience should serve as a foundation for continued growth: “We’ve learned a lot. Now it’s time to turn that experience into tangible achievements and impactful proposals.”  

The new Head of Delegation also emphasizes the importance of caring for every stage of the process and those involved: “We will work with high standards, but also with respect and care for the artists, so that the road to Eurovision is an enriching experience with satisfying results for everyone,” he says. He stresses that one of his main goals is to create listening
spaces for artists, creators, and the audience: “The Delegation should be a place of trust and creativity.”

With this new chapter, RTVE renews its commitment to quality, diversity, and talent.
