NRK, the Norwegian national broadcaster, has opened the song submission window for the forthcoming edition of Melodi Grand Prix.
Norway and NRK are gearing up in full steam for Eurovision 2026, preparations for MGP 2026 have already kicked off in the Nordic nation. Following the Norway’s Eurovision 2026’s participation confirmation yesterday, NRK has opened the song submission window for MGP 2026.
The song submission window for MGP 2026 is open as of today with the deadline set for 1 September 2026. Songwriters, artists and bands are invited to submit their songs for the Norwegian national selection. You can submit your entry/song for MGP 2026 here.
NRK has published the rules and regulations for MGP 2026:
- The song(s) must be an original composition.
- The song(s) cannot be longer than 3 minutes. Songs that exceed this will not be considered.
- The song(s) must not have been performed or released before September 1, 2025
- The song(s) must have at least one Norwegian songwriter.
- Artist must have turned 16 by January 1, 2026
- Each producer/songwriter may submit a maximum of three songs.

We are looking for uniqueness that can resonate widely, a song that only sticks with us once, that we and the rest of Europe will just want to hear over and over again.

We are now coming off a strong year with MGP and Eurovision. We have created a superstar in Kyle and a monster hit with “Lighter”. We are working on some very exciting news for next year, which we are ready to share this fall. Just look forward to it!
Norway in Eurovision
Norway debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960 and has won the competition thrice: 1985 (Bobbysocks), 1995 (Secret Garden) and 2009 (Alexander Rybak).
The Nordic country has successfully hosted the competition thrice, once in Bergen and twice in Oslo and has partaken in Europe’s favorite television show 63 times.
In 2025 Kyle Alessandro represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel with his entry ‘Lighter’.
