From comments like «This is already the winning song of ESC 2025!» to calls for it to become the new Swiss national anthem, «Made in Switzerland» has delighted audiences in Switzerland and the global ESC community alike. Fittingly, as Switzerland is the birthplace of the Eurovision Song Contest, the five-minute mini-musical, full of self-irony and featuring an extremely catchy melody, tells the story of how and why Switzerland – in addition to inventing the vegetable peeler, instant coffee and LSD – also created the Eurovision Song Contest. Playing the role of William Tell: ESC icon Petra Mede, who has hosted the contest three times in her home country of Sweden.
To create this mini-musical about Switzerland and the ESC, the show’s organisers recruited three of the most experienced and successful professionals from the Swiss musical and theatre scene: Lukas Hobi, artistic director and singer of the comedy a cappella group «Bliss», composed the piece and co-authored the lyrics. Christian Knecht was responsible for the storyline and lyrics, and he also took to the stage as Einstein. Director Rolf Sommer brought the musical song to life through his stage production. «Made in Switzerland» has already gained over 1.7 million views on YouTube just three weeks after its premiere in the First Semi-Final.
From tomorrow, Friday, «Made in Switzerland» will be available on all major music streaming platforms.
