Buonasera Sanremo! The longest-running annual TV music competition in the world is ready to entertain millions of viewers in the Belpaese and beyond. Live from Teatro Ariston on the Italian Riviera, Carlo Conti and his 29 participants are ready to write yet another page of the Italian music industry.

The 75th Sanremo Festival is just a few hours away. One of the most-anticipated events in the cultural universe of Italy is about to kick-off with the usual layer of drama, politics and just anything but music. Carlo Conti is back as host after having directed the Festival in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Fans across Europe and Australia have five long nights of music have of them, which will engrave another name in the Olympus of the Italian music industry. The list of winners of more than seven decades of Festival includes almost every single important name, the success in this Festival being considered as one of the most important achievements for singers in Italy.

But Sanremo wouldn’t be Sanremo without its link to Eurovision. It is on the basis of the experience of the first festival in 1951 that the Eurovision Song Contest took place.

Italy in Eurovision

Italy is one of the founder members of the Eurovision Song Contest having debuted in the very first contest in 1956. The country has won the event thrice with Gigliola Cinquetti (1964), Toto Cutugno (1990) and Maneskin (2021).

Italy withdrew from the competition in 1998 and returned to Eurovision in 2011 after a 13 year hiatus. Since their return to the contest the Italians have enjoyed great success in the event placing 9 times in the top 10 of the scoreboard including a victory in 2021.

Last year Angelina Mango represented Italy at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden with her entry La noia, placing 7th with 268 points.
