Good evening Reykjavik! What a show tonight to kick off the Icelandic quest at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. The first semi final of Söngvakepnnin delivered the first finalists of this year’s Icelandic national selection.

Söngvakeppnin 2025 is hosted by Benedikt Valsson, Fannar Sveinsson and Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir. All three shows are held at the RUK Studios in Gufunes.

Five acts competd in tonight’s semi-final, they were:

Only the top three advance to the Grand Final scheduled on 22 February 2025. They are:

  • Stebbi Jak – «Frelsid Mitt»
  • Ágúst – «Eins Og Þu»

About Songvakeppnin 2025.

Songvkeppnin 2025 will consist of three live televised shows ( 2 semifinals and 1 grand final). 10 acts will partake in the Icelandic national selection; five acts in each semi-fimal, the top three acts from each semi-final will proceed to the Grand Final where 6 acts will battle for the golden ticket to Eurovision 2025. The 2025 Icelandic Eurovision entry and act will be determined via a 50/50 combined televoting/international jury deliberation

Iceland in Eurovision

Iceland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986 and is yet to win the event. The country achieved its best results in the competition in 1999 (Selma) and 2009 (Yohanna) when it placed 2nd in the Grand Final. The Nordic nation has partaken in Europe’s favorite television show 36 times.

In 2024 Eurovision Queen Hera Björk represented Iceland in Malmö, Sweden, with the entry Scared of heights. She unfortunately failed to qualify to the Grand Final.
