Germany: ARD, RTL and Stefan Raab join forces for ESC 2025 national selection

ARD, the German national broadcaster, has announced that it will be joining forces with RTL and Stefan Raab in order to organize the 2025 German national selection.

German national broadcaster NDR will be teaming up with RTL for the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

ARD, RTL and Stefan will officially present the format and mechanism Germany willl use to select the 2025 German Eurovision act and entry on Thurday 31 October 2024 at the Swiss Embassy in Berlin during a special press conference.

Stefan Raab, ARD program director Christine Strobl, RTL program director Inga Leschek and NDR program director Frank Beckmann will be present during the present during the press conference.

ARD’s press release reads:

The Eurovision Song Contest in Basel is looming. The selection process has already started in many countries – and the hot phase will soon begin in Germany too. ARD, RTL and Stefan Raab have invited people to a joint press conference at the Swiss Embassy in Berlin on October 31st at 11 a.m. to present how the German act for the ESC 2025 will be found. All information about the German selection process can be found directly afterwards here on eurovision.de and in a special edition of the ESC Update podcast in the ARD audio library. In addition to Stefan Raab, ARD program director Christine Strobl, RTL program director Inga Leschek and NDR program director Frank Beckmann will also provide information about the new process at the press conference.

NDR, as the ESC leader of ARD, will now work with RTL for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. The last time there was a collaboration with a private broadcaster was in 2012 – also with the participation of Stefan Raab. In 2012, Roman Lob won the casting show “Unser Star für Baku” broadcast on ARD and ProSieben and came eighth in the ESC final. Two years earlier, Lena won the preliminary round “Unser Star für Oslo”, which was also a collaboration , and later even won the entire ESC 2010. Most recently, Isaak achieved twelfth place for Germany at the ESC in Malmö with the song “Always On The Run” .
