Salvador, at only 28 years of age, made a very satisfactory and uncomplicated recovery, according to the hospital. Nonetheless, he must avoid exposition to large crowds.

Before being hospitalised, Sobral had announced in September that he would make a career break for health reasons and indefinitely. The announcement caused a lot of concern among Eurofans.

A very successful 2017

The victory at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017, with the song Amar pelos dois, written by his sister Luísa Sobral, gave greater national and international visibility to the young musician.

Salvador Sobral ended 2017 as one of the winners of the European Border Breakers Awards and was recognised, along with his sister, as personality of the year by the Association of the Foreign Press in Portugal.
