Joci Pápai, Hungary’s 2017 Eurovision representative, showed himself in a whole new light at the weekend as he dressed up and performed as Sandy from Grease!
The act was performed on Hungarian television over the weekend, and featured as part of a programme called Sztárban sztár, known internationally as Your Face Sounds Familiar.
Each week, Hungarian singers sing and perform as different famous acts, and are eliminated until the eventual winner is crowned “Hungary’s most versatile performer”.
When 2 Eurovision stars collide
In the video, Joci Pápai sings the Hungarian version of You’re the one that I want accompanied by dancers and another male singer, Tamás Horváth, performing as Danny from the popular film Grease.
It was good news for the Hungarian singer on the night, as Pápai secured enough votes to qualify to the next stage of the competition. Check out his combined performance!
The musical Grease increased in popularity after the release of the film in 1978. Back then, Sandy’s part was played by Olivia Newton-John, who came second for the United Kingdom in 1974 with the song Long live love.
Joci Pápai represented Hungary in 2017 with the melodic gypsy song Origo. He finished in a respectable 8th place with 200 points.
