RUV, the national broadcaster has announced that it will once again opt for its national selection Söngvakeppin. The broadcaster has published the rules and confirmed the dates for its national selection.

The submission period for artists and composers to submit their applications to RUV in order to battle for the golden ticket to Kyiv at the 2017 Icelandic national selection until 28 October.

Söngvakeppin 2017 will consist of a total of 3 televised shows. A total of 12 songs will compete for the right to represent Iceland in Kyiv, 6 songs in each semifinal. 3 songs from each semifinal will proceed to the Grand Final.

The dates for the 2017 Icelandic national selection have been confirmed:

  • 25/02 – Semifinal 1
  • 04/03 – Semifinal 2
  • 11/03 – Söngvakeppin 2017 Grand Final

In 2016 Greta Salome represented Iceland at the 2016 ESC in Stockholm with her entry Hear them calling. Despite a magnificent performance Iceland failed to qualify to the Grand Final.

Iceland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986 and is yet to win the competition.

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 9, 11 and 13 May at the IEC in Kyiv, Ukraine.
