As announced earlier, broadcaster DR has decided to not hold semi finals in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2009, the Danish national final for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. However, it has now been revealed that the national final will not only be a one evening show but a huge event in the city of Herning with 2400 tickets for sale.

According to DR, there will probably be a series of events before the actual national final on 31st January. The 2400 tickets will go on sale next Wednesday, 3rd December. With about 45,000 inhabitants, Herning is the eleventh most populous town in Denmark and was named Danish City of the year twice. In 2001, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix already took place there.

684 songs were submitted to broadcaster DR, many more than in recent years. The national final will take place on 31st January withten songs competing. Six of the songs will be chosen from the submitted ones and another four will be added by invited singers and groups.Amongthe composers who submitted entries areDQ (Peter Andersen),Me & My and Claus & Anne-Marie Hassing.

Simon Mathew finished third in the second semi final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest and qualified for the final where he finished 15th with All night long. The song was a minor hit in Denmark and peaked at #12 in the single chartsand alsoat#56 in Sweden.
