SVT, have revealed more details on next year Melodifestivalen and the biggest change in recent years: 12 songs will take part in the grand final, while the number of entries per heat will be reduced to 7.

Next year’s Melodifestivalen will be an edition to remember, as the national selection is undergoing the biggest changes in the format since 2002 when the semi-finals were introduced.

Under the new format 28 entries will be chosen to take part in the competition – 13 from the regular competition and 14 contributions appointed by the production team – will compete in each heat, with the top 2 proceeding to the grand final.

Meanwhile, the Andra Chansen, the second chance show, will face the major changes as well as there will be four entries qualifying to the Grand Final. Similar to recent years there will be four duels in the second chance with the winning songs automatically getting a spot in the final.

We try to review and make it new every year, says Christer Björkman. Executive Producer. With the new form of the Second Chance, this year we will have 12 acts instead of 10 competing in the final. Viewers will have two extra favorites to vote for.

The Swedish Broadcaster has also set a voting limit per song. Now viewers can vote up to 20 times per entry, but as many songs as they want per heat.

In the upcoming days the selection panel will seat and listen to the 2,177 entries received for the 2015 Melodifestivalen in order to select the semifinalist and the SVT will announce the dates, venues and host cities for the national selection.
