One of the biggest Eurovision nations, Sweden has revealed its rules and submission deadlines for Melodifestivalen 2015. Just like in the previous years, even new songwriters are welcome to join.

Sweden is proud of the bronze medal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, says Christen Björkman, the executive producer of Melodifestivalen 2015. SVT (the Swedish broadcaster) is calling for songs in various languages, different genres and styles. “Diversity and variety is an inportant part of Melodifestivalen” – says Mr Björkman.

The submission, however, will not open until 1 September 9:00 am. The deadline for submitting entries is 16 September 8:59 am, so little more than two weeks will be entitled to the entering phase.

There are several rules that bonds the selection. Last year, 20% of the songs had to have at least one female author. This year, this hurdle is raised to half of the songs. Moreover, 30% of the songs will have to be sung mainly in Swedish.

Songwriters who has never published a song before can enter in the public competition. There will be only one winner in this competition. Those with previously unpublished works can enter to the regular competition, which will be fully judged and chosen by SVT’s jury.

One more artist will be picked following the Svensktoppen Nästa, as the winning artist secures a place in one of the Melodifestivalen shows.
