Lithuania: 6 finalists qualify for Eurovizijos 2014 show #8

Tonight, the 7th show of the 2014 Lithuanian national selection Eurovizijos 2014 was held in country’s capital, Vilnius. 7 acts performed the remaining songs and after a public/jury deliberation, 6 candidates have qualified to next week’s show.

Next week, the 6 hopefuls will compete in the 8th show of Eurovizijos 2014. Each of the candidates will sing their given songs once again. After another public/jury deliberation, the 6 acts will be narrowed down to 5 acts and a total of 10 songs will be shortlisted.

The 2014 Lithuanian national selection consists of 4 rounds. 20 candidates were selected by LRT to battle for the golden ticket to Copenhagen this year in May. After competing in the first 2 rounds, 8 participants remain and will compete in Round 3 of the selection. Full details about the selection process can be found here.

Originally, the 4 finalists were to be decided along with the 2014 Lithuanian Eurovision song entry on the 8February with the representative then being selected on the 15 February. However due to the popularity of this year’s selection, LRT have decided to extend the selection meaning that the grand final will instead take place on the 1 March. Lithuania debuted at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. Lithuania’s best result to date was in 2006 when LT United was selected to represent their country in the host city of Athens. After qualifying to the grand final, the band eventually ended in 6th place with a total of 163 points.

Last year, Andrius Pojavis represented Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö with his song Something. Pojavis received 17 points in the final, ending in 22nd place.
