RUV, the Icelandic national broadcaster has informed esctoday.com that the 2014 Icelandic national selection will kick off in January and conclude in February. The dates for the Icelandic semfinals and final will be announced at the end of November.

RUV will be making an official annoucement at the end of November revealing the titles of the songs that will compete in the national selection along with the names of their respective composers, and the dates for the semfinals and final. The names of the candidates will be revealed at a later date.

RUV has received a record number of  297 entries for their 2014 Eurovision national selection. The Icelandic broadcaster is currently evaluating all the submitted entries and will be making a deliberation in due course. The broadcaster has received 25% more songs than last year, thus showcasing the popularity of the Eurovision Song Contest in Iceland.

Last July RUV confirmed to esctoday.com Iceland’s participation at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhangen.

Eythor Ingi represented Iceland at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo with Ég á líf, placing 17th.

The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Denmark on 6, 8, 10 May. Stay tuned to esctoday.com for the latest information on Iceland and the contest.
