Last year’s winner Denmark are busy searching for the perfect artist to represent them on home soil next May.

It’s been slightly over a month since Danish broadcaster DR announced that they received a total of 872 songs to compete in this year’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (Dansk MGP). A record breaking number, that exceeds last year’s number by 180! A secret jury have listened to all the entries and this is what entertainment editor Rasmus Ladefoged had to say to dr.dk:

The level is really high! Emmelie’s victory has really inspired songwriters to produce better songs for us. Our main goal is to find someone who has the potential to win internationally. We are looking for songs that can create a party and gives you something to talk about!

10 songs will compete in this year’s final. 6 of them will be chosen from the 872 submitted entries, whilst the other 4 will be invited by DR to take part. In 2013, DR invited Louise Dubiel, Jack Rowan & Sam Gray and Mohamed Ali to take part. The latter finished in second place behind Emmelie.

The Dansk MGP 2014 will be held at Arena Fyn in Odense on 8th March, 2014.

Denmark won the contest last year with Only Teardrops by Emmelie de Forest, thus earning the right to host the 59th Eurovision Song Contest.
