Steve De Coninck-De Boeck, manager of programmes at the Flemish public broadcaster VRT, has been chosen as the new head of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest reference group. The election for a new leader took place on 23rd September in Milano.

De Coninck-De Boeck was responsible for the Flemish national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Eurosong for Kids. The European Broadcasting Union noticed the successful formula, partly based on other formulas, and awarded the 2005 edition of the junior contest to the Belgian broadcasters VRT (Flemish community) and RTBF (French community).

The reference group exists of 10 representatives of European public broadcasters. Every year, they meet several times to discuss the event, make decisions about the format and the organization itself. “Thanks to the result of this election, VRT can continue to influence the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in a positive way for the upcoming years”, De Coninck-De Boeck said to our colleagues of eurosong.be.

The proud new reference group head will continue his activities at the Flemish public broadcaster and will combine this daily job with his Junior Eurovision Song Contest activities.

Ruurd Bierman (Dutch NOS) is the head of the 'adult' Eurovision Song Contest reference group.
