Russia: Sergey Lazarev hot favourite to win Eurovision; 1.9 million views and counting

Sergey Lazarev, the 2016 Russian Eurovision representative is one of the hot favourites to win the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. He is among the bookies’ hot favorite to belt the grand prix May.

The Russian hopeful released his Eurovision entry You are the only one last Saturday. The song has gone viral on Youtube achieving more than 1.9 million views and counting in only 4 days. The song got  1 million views in just 24 hours!

Whilst on Itunes Sergey’s entry is charting in more than 10 countries: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Greece,  Israel, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Peru, Spain, Thailand, Portugal and the Netherlands. The song is #1 on Itunes in Latvia, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Oddcheckers currently has Russia as the 2nd hot favourite to win the competion after Sweden, who is yet to select its representative and entry. Initially Russia was leading the betting odds, until it was taken over by Poland and Sweden in the last weeks. The country has climbed up and its odds have shortened since its entry’s premiere last Saturday.

Eurovision pundits are predicting that the Russian superstar will bag the trophy come May and bring the Eurovision bandwagon on Russian soil for the second time. Are we heading to Sochi, St. Peterburg or Moscow?

Sergey Lazarev was selected via an internal selection in order to fly the Russian flag in Stockholm. The internationally acclaimed Eurovision Dream Team consisting of Dimitris Kontopoulos, Fokas Evagelinos and Philip Kirkorov are behind the 2016 Russian entry.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena.
