Johnny Logan – known to many as Mr. Eurovision – has given his support to Nicky Byrne, who was recently announced and Ireland’s entry in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

Nicky Byrne, who was a member of the popular boy band Westlife, was recently named the Irish Entry with Sunlight, which he co-wrote.

Of Ireland’s 2016 entry, Johnny Logan has said:

Getting Nicky to represent Ireland and presenting the song and artist this way looks professional for the first time in many years, Nicky has loads of experience and he won’t be fazed by the big stage. He is a good-looking and intelligent guy who will make the country proud.

Ireland holds the record for the most wins in the Eurovision Song Contest, having won seven times. Johnny Logan has won the competition himself twice, firstly in 1979 with What’s another year then in 1987 with Hold me now, and he wrote Linda Martin‘s winning song from 1992 Why me.
