Molly Sandén will close Melodifestivalen 2016 with the song Youniverse. She will participate in Semifinal 4 on 27 February. However, a snippet of the song was accidently published online yesterday. As a result, SVT has decided to put online all songs of Semifinal 4 for a limited time of 24 hours.
Snippets from the rehearsals of each Melodifestivalen semifinal are released on the Wednesday before the show. That is when parts of the songs are released for the first time. However, a thrity seconds snippet was available for listening on Amazon’s music service, with the release date of the full song set to 28 February. The snippet was removed from the website since then.
Sony Music, who represents Molly Sandén, has said in a press message that “During the night Sony Music and SVT have found out that seconds from the Melodifestivalen song Youniverse were available online for a short time in foreign digital platforms. Naturally, we are appalled by this violation. When we found out about that, the clip was immediately taken off. Neither the artist or the record company contributed to this leak”.
Christer Björkman, the executive producer of Melodifestivalen 2016, has added: “We have not found any intention of the artist or its record company as in all communications they were clear that the release date is 28 February. The mistake happened in the next stage which means that there is no reason for disqualification. Unfortunately, it happened, and we recommend that record companies should be very clear in their communications with the various sale channels”
As a result, All songs of Semifinal 4 will be available for preview listening for a period of 24 hours starting at 17:00 CET. They will be available on SVT’s official website.
