BHRT, the Bosnian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday Bosnia & Herzegovina’s preliminary participation at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm next May.

Bosnia Herzegovina is the 26th country to confirm its participation at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. BHRT has applied to compete at the forthcoming Eurovision edition in Stockholm. The country will make a final decision regarding its Eurovision participation in  Stockholm by 10 October.

The deadline for countries to submit their respective applications  in order to compete at the 61st Eurovision Song Contest concludes today. Herefater all applicants have a grace period until 10 October  to decide wether to stay in the contest or leave without facing a financial penalty.

Bosnia & Herzegovina withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 due to finacial reasons and has been absent from the competition for 3 years, having missed out in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The last time we saw Bosnia & Herzegovina on the Eurovision stage was in 2012 when Maya Sar flew the Bosnian flag in Baku with her entry Korake ti znam. In 2012 BHRT opted for an internal selection in order to select its Eurovision entry and act for Eurovision.

Bosnia & Herzegovina debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best result in the contest was achieved in 2006 when Hari Mata Hari placed 3rd in the grand final in Athens.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
