Lithuania: LRT confirms participation in Eurovision 2016

LRT, the Lithuanian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday its participation at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

Thus Lithuania is the 12th country to confirm its participation at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest scheduled to be held on 10, 12 and 14 May at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. Lithuania joins the great 2016 Eurovision party along with Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Ireland all whom have confirmed their participation at next year’s ESC.

In 2015 Lithuania opted for a national selection in order to select its Eurovision entry and act for Vienna. LRT has also confirmed to ESCToday that it will opt for a similar format in order to select its 2016 Eurovision entry and act for Stockholm. More details on the exact format, mechanism along with the rules and regulations of the 2016 Lithuanian national selection will be released in the coming months.

In 2015 Monika Lynkite and Vaidas Baumila defended the Lithuanian colours at the Eurovision Song Contest with their entry This time. They achieved an 18th place in the grand final in Vienna.

Lithuania debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 and is yet to win the event. The country’s achieved its best result in the contest in 2006 with LT United‘s We are the winners in Athens.
