About Joci Pápai

37-year old József “Joci“ Pápai will represent Hungary for the second time at Eurovision, after reaching a respectable 8th place at Eurovision 2017 with Origo. Born in the town of Tata, Joci Pápai is of Romani descent and proudly incorporates Romani influences in his songs. The artist became involved in music from a young age and became publicly known when he participated in the talent show Megasztár (Voice of the Year) in 2005.

In the years that followed, Joci Pápai honed his craft and collaborated with acts such as rapper Majka and singer Caramel, creating his unique style as a guitarist, rapper and singer. Following his successful Eurovision 2017 participation, the artist gained popularity in his country and beyond. In 2019 he again participated in Hungary’s Eurovision selection A Dal (The Song), eventually winning the contest on 23 February 2019 with the song Az ém apám.

About the song Az én apám

Az ém apám (“My father”) is a personal ballad, in which the singer reminisces about his father. The song was composed and written by Joci Pápai himself in collaboration with Ferenc “Caramel” Molnár.
