Tonight, the United Kingdom will make their mind up as to who they want to represent them at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest, choosing from six songs and an array of ex reality stars in Making your mind up, the new national selection format.

The BBC has described the show as “laying the ghosts of Jemini to rest” and hope that one of these songs will bring the UK a much better placing in Istanbul. The show will be hosted by Terry Wogan, the BBC commentator and presenter of the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest. He will be joined by Gaby Roslin, his long time co-host of Children in Need. Sertab Erener will be guest performer.

Phone lines will open at 19:25 local time and voting will close at 20:15. The BBC has described the voting as an “elaborate technical tour de force“. Seven celebrity regional spokespeople will announce the phone vote for that region of the UK plus a combined SMS and interactive result counted in London. This format was readopted last year, in which each region awarded points, an attempt reinstall a Eurovision vibe into the UK selection and create some of the same tension and excitement that we witness in the real contest.

Paddy O'Connell and Lorraine Kelly will collect reactions and opinions on the performances, costumes and dance routines and gives tips and hints on which way the vote might go on BBC THREE, the BBC�s sky digital channel. Then back at BBC One, between 21:00 and 21:30 the results will pour in and the winner will be revealed. Paddy O�Connell will then talk to the winner who will represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in Turkey on the 15th May 2004 back on BBC THREE. It set to be a very interesting night, as the public awaits what the BBC has to offer. Whether it will be a success and how well the winning song will do remains to be seen.
