Rehearsal and press conference done!

Silvia Night shines controversially!

The second day of rehearsals comes to an explosive end with Icelandic representative Silvia Night concluding the proceedings to mixed reactions from the audience. Set on a lavish stage, the controversial song from Iceland was the last song to be performed on a packed day of rehearsals.

A giant pink stiletto nestling between two three metre high candy canes was the setting for one of the most anticipated performances of the day. Silvia emerged wearing a white and green period outfit topped with a large green feathered hat. Joined by the two male dancers that helped Silvia achieve victory in the Icelandic national final, she performed a comedy routine that divided the audience.

Would she or wouldn't she?
The sound checks kicked off as the audience waited to know wether Silvia was all mouth or if she would go through with her risqué lyics. As the song came on Silvia launched into her performance with great gusto and sang loudly and clearly "The vote is in, I f**king win!" with a middle finger up, to a cheer from the half of the spectators and shocked faces from the other half. As Silvia launched herself down the stiletto slide, she hit the bottom rather too quickly, which caused a brief cut in the vocals.

From bad girl to worse girl
As a second run through commenced Silvia's problems did not stop there. Her mic box came loose and fell clattering to the floor, silencing her vocal. The track was stopped and a technician rushed over to help her, to which she replied "F**king amateurs! I have to do everything my f**king self!" before grabbing the box back and fixing it back on. She promptly marched back to the stiletto shoe and commanded "Play!" to the floor manager. He in turn demanded of her "Play please", to which she, with little to lose by now, replied "F**k off!". He capitulated, and the track was restarted, and she made it through the first full run-through.

The split audience granted Silvia a mixture of applause and booing following this. Feisty as ever, Silvia turned on them next, calling them "f**king retards", to gasps and unbelieving laughter. She seemed to settle down for the next couple of run-throughs, which may have had something to do with being threatened by a 'chat' from the floor manager.

After being taped twice, her rehearsal was over, and she left proclaiming "They love me! I was so good. I was perfect!"

Surprise props
The routine does not at all seem fixed at this time, as each run-through resulted in a slightly different presentation by Silvia, with minor changes to timing on each attempt. Her two comedy dancers perform the same kind of teasing, cheeky moves that they used in the Icelandic final, but there are prop moments which should raise a laugh on the night. These include a 'surprise' glitter shower from one candy cane, and a drop-down golden phone from the other.

Rough justice
Before the Icelandic entrant had even got to the table there was a new controversy surrounding Silvia Night. A member of her backing crew informed the journalists assembled in the conference area that they were to not look Silvia in the eyes while asking her questions. The penalty for this was to be immediate expulsion from the venue with a burly-looking escort. One unfortunate 'journalist' was unlucky enough to dare to break the rule, and was swiftly whipped onto the shoulders of the bouncer and physically removed!

The first question was the one most people were lining up to ask, concerning the explicit content in the Icelandic song and the thoughts and feelings of one Silvia Night. Ms Night denied any knowledge of the problems with the songs lyrics and reassured everyone that she would investigate this personally.

I have arrived and you can sleep alright
Hiding behind sunglasses so as not to break the eye rule, the question was asked if Silvia had any messages for her fans. She had one very important message. "I have arrived and you can sleep alright, Silvia Night will guide the light". Then  it was on to the subject of previous lovers, and the question of whether the reported romance with Paul Oscar was true. Silvia did confirm this but requested that no more questions be asked as it was personal subject and her beau was with her.

More controversial questions were on everyone's lips regarding the rehearsal, and Silvia apologised for her earlier outburts to an EBU technician, citing the immense pressure she has been under  as the reasons behind her overreaction.

Will you marry me?
Another journalist was nearly ejected from the conference hall after asking if the diamond from the video clip for Congratulations was with Silvia, and would it be ok if he used it to ask Silvia to marry him. Silvia reminded the press that her boyfriend was with her, and questions like that are completely innapropriate.

Silvia also declared that the Icelandic government would issue a one year holiday to the people of Iceland should Silvia emerge victorious from the competition. When the final question of Silvia's mission to bring hope to the poor people of Iceland with no sushi bars was asked, the delegation decided that enough was enough and left the conference hall as Silvia thanked everyone for attending, telling us we will see her very soon.

We can expect to hear a lot more about Silvia's antics as the week progresses!

READ THIS:

1. This has been said before but some people just don't get it so here it is written very clearly; The journalist that was thrown out of the press meeting was an actress from Iceland. Her name is Unnur and she is married to the man who plays Romario (Silvias "boyfriend" ;). So you can stop being offended by that.

2. Singin the song in Icelandic wouldn't make any difference. She says the F-word there as well.

3. It's highly likely that she will change her "Yo god, what's up dog" line into something else. When she sang the song in Icelandic she kept changing that line every time she sang the song.

4. It's been said many many times; the ESC contest is aired with 10 sec. delay. That means, IF Silvia says the F-word, the technicians can "beeb" it, so no worries people!

5. Silvia keeps changing her performance at every rehearsal. I think the performance on thursday will be a whole new one and unlike any performance at rehearsals.

6. She apologized for calling bad things at the Greek technicians, if that means anything. And once again, this is not something personal agains the Greek nation. If only you could understand Icelandic you could watch her TV-shows on the internet and see it for your selves that she makes just as much fun of Icelanders.

some ppl say that the song should be at icelandic. the lyric is worse. soo why cant she just say F**king? in the icelandic lyric she says ,,the other b*tches have spots, but I'm a virgin" or something like that. it's nothing better. every children these days say that word (f*cking) nearly everyday. so whats the problem?. not like they are hearing some new word.

at icelandic;

This girl needs to be f***ed and propably GET A LIFE...

I'm offended by your use of the *F* and it's very rude to tell someone to get a life, especially when you are not acting. It seems you are holding Silvia Night to a higher standard then you hold yourself to here on this website. Why is that?

Darren Hamer said: Silvia is the queen of complete EURO-TRASH!!! She needs locking up!!!

Huh? In his profile he has Iceland at the top of his list of favorite contestants in the competition.

Living outside Europe, I want to say that this competition would be blah and boring and of no interest for the rest of the world if Sylvia Night hadn't "arrived". And hey, at least she kept the sound man awake at the rehearsal. I've seen some clips from the other contestants' rehearsals and I think I may replay them some night when I have insomnia.

Silvia Night is a person from TV show.. She is playing rude person. The actress that plays Silvia Night is really shy and good hearted girl. People need to she the joke! she is making fun of every star that goes a little bit to far with their celeb. If you would see the TV show that she has you would understand! But I understand that people that is not from Iceland and dont know anything about her, think she is going to far with her acts.. I think that to sometimes! But The song is cool! Enjoy watching Eurovision!

Move over Paris Hilton Icland has an aswer. Yes she's obnoxios, yes she's rude and yes she is way over the top. That is the whole point she is a comedian!!! Enjoy the performance and it's very unlikely she'll win so don't get your kncikers in a twist.

Oh and no not all icelandics are rude, they are in my experience some of the most friendly and open people i've met and i've travelled round europe a lot so please don't judge a population by their eurovision entry. (and i mean that most sincerly being a briton)

I only wish Sylvias song was stronger. I really love her act! Saw the interview on the Nordic previews - and loved it! I will vote for her in the Semi! Only because of her (not for the song).

Martim - Nice to hear that not only noth-western Europe likes Sylvia!

This woman is quite amazing! She is mocking the ego-centric stars of today who may be talentless but who know how to work the media and in the process she is working the media like such a pro and will become a star herself because of it. She knows that controversy is what sells and she intent on creating as much controversy as possible and what makes me laugh is that some people are falling for it. This is too funny. The woman is a genius.

Emilia
We have thought about that not everybody will get the joke. But we don't give a SH**, because we are doing this for our own amusement. Not yours. But you, however, are a part of our fun. Conservative little scared people that go all crazy because of one little brat. It doesnt take much to rattle your world. It's pretty pathetic.

The best of all this, is that it seems that most people are catching on to Silvia so we might end up as winners as a bonus. Otherwise we don't care which place we get, we had our fun. And we have realised a long time ago that we have no desire to have old fashioned godscared people like our songs.

@ Uwe B

Since 1993, B J O R K is Iceland's truly international star, and,
although, at times, she may appear as unusual or quirky, she is one VERY
TALENTED artist!!! In 1994, she wrote the song "Bedtime Story" for
Madonna's 1994 album entitled Bedtime Stories! That is probably
the
Iceland connection to Madonna that you must have meant ... because there
is NO comparison between Madonna and Silvia Night!!!! Silvia is indeed poking fun to the likes of Cyndi Lauper of the 1980s, but it
is 2006 now. I guess Cyndi had to do "Everything" ;) then,
including to wear some awful colourful outfits and heaps of make-up
to get noticed because her "rival", at the time, Madonna was (and still
is) getting all the attention! She had a couple of mega-hits then, but
Where is Cyndi Lauper now?

Anyway, back to Bjork ... Ten years later, in August 2004, she
delivered a fabulous performance of the song "Oceania" (from her Medulla album) at the Opening Ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in ATHENS, GREECE. You may recall, as she sang, her dress slowly unravelled to reveal a map of the world, which she let flow over the Olympic athletes in the Olympic Stadium. Apart from Iceland's great
athletes, Bjork :) was also Iceland's connection to the ATHENS OLYMPICS!!!! Thank you to Bjork!!!

GOOD LUCK ICELAND!

The Song is very weak and she cannot sing. Bjoerk and Madonna are L I G H T Y E A R S ahead of this Singer - I m sure nobody will hear anything about her in half a year.

Only the bubbleing Geysirs in Iceland.

I'm really amazed that the only people who seem to find this funny are the Icelandic themselves and Anglophones.... maybe it's our sense of humour but Silvia is an excellent piece of post-modern irony!

Song selections from the NORDIC countries:

1. NORWAY (BEAUTIFUL song (I liked it since its selection), Christing Gulbrandsen singing in Norwegian - I absolutely want this to qualify SF)(fingers crossed!!)

2. SWEDEN (Lovely song (to be performed by Carola) co-composed by the successful half-Greek, half-Swedish Bobby Ljunggren, that is highly expected to qualify SF in Athens)

3. DENMARK ("Twist of Love" ~ Wonderful song, already in the Final)

4. FINLAND (Interesting hard rock song, albeit not my style in music -however, I would not mind if it qualified SF, even though I'd rather see Lordi's real faces...)

5. ICELAND (The music is great, but the comically controversial lyrics should have been kept in Icelandic! I wonder if outrageous behaviour and kitchy costumes will work their magic? Silivia is very funny, but the ESC is NOT a Comedy Club) - still needs to qualify SF
