Kerstin Freking - her pitch is too high and her delivery flat. Horrible.
Meri Voskanian - don't like the song at all - not a great vocal, but the song doesn't help the poor girl.
Cyril Krueger - doing "a classic" track - a very ordinary performance too. Nothing different or special. Mr Average.
Katrin Walter - Her vocal was great when it was quiet but she didn't quite cut it when the song got bigger. A definite ballad girl here.

So - let us hope the next 5 to qualify are alot better. Please!

Lena Meyer-Landrut

Terrible. Really really bad.

I don't think we can knock the format when the only recent example we have got the UK it's first decent placing since 2002

That's true although I'm not very fond of this format myself. Personally I would rather have the song first, the singers second. Because someone could be mediocre in one song but quite good in another one. I think that if the 10 contestants in Germany had all sung the same song (the eurovision song), it would be easier to judge them.
With the current format, someone perfect for that particular song, could have been eliminated already.

But really what I wanna see in ESC from Germany the most is:
1. CASCADA!!! (L)
2. Christopher von Deylen with some of his AMAZING projects (Schiller) (L)

Togravus
But she can also help Germany in ESC If she will participate! :D
And if she ask me, better to stay with her old beautifull songs like: "Glaub an mich" and "Fur dich" coz it will be more succesfull by far! ;)

@ togravus
Chapeau for your patience!
But I think it's useless - it doesn't seem that anybody is really interested to hear your arguments... it rather seems that people want to abreact in here...

I'm sorry but what else for is a comment like this:
"it was a idol Show no own songs from the canditates , i think germany go out from the contest "

I don't understand why so many people are opposed to the Idol format Germany are using?

If anything it makes the singers sing a wide variety of songs, setting apart the ones who really can sing and the ones who are just mediocre. And yes the song is the most important thing ... which is why one is being specifically written! :P It worked last year the UK, and I know It's my time wasn't exactly a good song, but it got the desired result and the Idol format can work just as well for Germany as it did for the UK :)

In all fairness, we only have one example of this Idol format being used for Eurovision, Your Country Needs You. Now, it worked very well so I don't think we can knock the format when the only recent example we have got the UK it's first decent placing since 2002 :)

Marko

Your beloved Yvonne Catterfeld said last night that she decided to join the jury for two reasons:

1. USFO is no typical sentimental and spectecular idol show but about quality.

2. She wants to help ESC in Germany.

You see, she is completely on my side here, as most Germans are ...

Btw, I really like her new song 'Blau in blau'. She has completely changed her style. It is a waltz.

@ New in Town
This whole "idol" concept is pretty useless...
That's my point! ;)
And I can't believe Yvonne Catterfeld wants to waist her time in "Idol" show for ESC as jury member, but doesn't want to represent Germany in ESC! :S That's quite stupid imo! :D

Well, I will say it once more and (I promise) for the last time. Our national selection this year isn't about ESC 2010 at all but about raising interest in ESC IN Germany. The approach this year is a more general one because they try to reanimate the contest in Germany. Of course, everyone is free and welcome to dislike the idol format NDR and Pro 7 are using this year but it is certainly the best they could come up with at the moment for ESC in Germany. (And I don't like idol formats myself, but there is a difference between what I like and what is best for ESC in Germany ...)

That would be the best! Well another composer preferably (Raab is not very good I think)... but Yvonne Catterfeld would be a good choice.

This whole "idol" concept is pretty useless...

Real strange! They "know" the "super-star" already now, allthough they have not even seen/heard the other 10 yet. Too much of a "prayer" and afterwards, getting ZERO points, they knew anyway, because the song was bad and all that blabla ...

Also the Süddeutsche Zeitung is strange to me: too much of a prayer?!?! After only 1 song by each contestant?

Let them SING first (ALL of them), let them sing another song and then you can vote/praise/review/judge ...

The most important is THE SONG not the performer !

I really hate this kind of national selection :(

Yes, you're right... And the whole press echo is nearly all the same (excluding FAZ)... I've read Stern, Spiegel and Welt - they are all full of positive reactions...

Have you read the article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung yet? I think this perfectly sums up what happened last night:

Why they just don't let jury from this Idol show reprsent Germany - Raab as composer and Yovnne Cattefeld singer of his song, and that's it, song for Oslo is ready!! :D :D :D

@ CC L.
Yes, indeed I do... and obviously we have absolutely different life styles, tastes and most of all friends...
Perhaps it's better for both of us to write "the majority of the Germans I KNOW" the next time...

but then, still, I have to say that I tend to see my perception as the one which is closer to reality - based on the chart success Max Mutzke, Texas Lightning and Roger Cicero reached...

oh and for this
"and so fans and viewers are shocked there was no german-language song in the first unser-star-für-oslo-show. "

eh - no... where did you read that? everybody who I heard was thrilled...

All in all, it's always the same with people in esctoday - now referring not necessarily to you - it's a bit tiring how negative the people are in here...

Yesterday evening I was watching the show and I didn't like it very much. The show seemed like Raab's prime time show "TV TOTAL" and not like a national selection to choose a singer for the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST. The singers weren't that good and to be honest I hope the next TOP10 will be better, even if I have to say that Lena, Cyril were the best and I hope they will make it into the grand final.
What concerns the jury, only Marius Mueller-Westerhagen made good and highly professional judgements.

Nevertheless, I hope next week it will be better.

Good luck Germany
