Part 3
Eurovision Results analysis: What if...?
This would have been the results with only the countries in the final voting:
- Norway - 226 points
- Iceland - 138 points
- Azerbaijan - 120 points
- Turkey - 114 points
- United Kingdom - 102 points
- Estonia - 80 points
- Greece - 67 points
- Russia - 65 points
- France - 64 points
- Moldova - 60 points
- Armenia - 51 points
- Ukraine - 46 points
- Bosnia & Herzegovina - 42 points
- Denmark - 37 points
- Sweden - 31 points
- Germany - 30 points
- Romania - 29 points
- Portugal - 26 points
- Albania - 24 points
- Israel - 24 points
- Croatia - 22 points
- Finland - 19 points
- Malta - 17 points
- Lithuania - 8 points
- Spain - 8 points
We can see that the top seven would have been identical to the actual outcome. However, some other interesting details can be seen: Russia (11th in the final) and Moldova (14th in the final) would have been in the top ten kicking out Bosnia & Herzegovina and Armenia. Bosnia & Herzegovina would have dropped to 13th place, which could be explained by the fact that only two former Yugoslav countries reached the final. Spain would have finished last with Finland rising by three places. The biggest winner would have been Sweden as Malena Ernman would have been higher by six places. Germany would have done better by four places.
Furthermore, we now take a look at the top ten if only the countries of the first or second semi finals had voted. Of course, this would not be a realistic way of voting but it is supposed to reveal if countries prefer sticking to a country they have already voted for in the semi final or if they rather swap to another country. As different numbers of countries were voting in the semi finals, we do not compare the absolute scores given but the average scores:
The countries of the first semi final :
| The countries of the second semi final:
|
We can see that while Norway was the clear favourite with both, Alexander Rybak was even more popular in the countries that could already vote for him in the second semi final. Turkey and Armenia took part in the first semi final and were more popular in the countries they competed with by a distinctive difference. Among the countries that competed and voted in the second semi final, Estonia thanks its high placing this year to the countries that have already voted for it in the semi final: Estonia was not even seen in the top ten of those who voted in the first semi final but in fifth place by the contestants of the second semi final. The same happened to Denmark. The only major exception is Greece: Sakis Rouvas was far more popular among those who could vote for him for the first time.
Stay tuned for the upcoming parts of our results analysis. The parts are:
- Numbers and statistics in the final
- Numbers and statistics in the semi final
- What if...?
- Voting blocs, friendly neighbours & diasporas

Keep 50/50. It is a lot better and improved things a lot, which is what viewers wanted. Look forward to seeing it in use next year.
the whole point of Eurovision is for the people, why should the people lose their power, it'll making the contest very boring if it was only the jury that was deciding. I think 50/50 is good
I am also onlt interested in the difference between the televote and jury votes.
Come on ESC give us what we want - stop all this what if nonsense!
And - I want more jury votes - an end to this lets all vote for our neighbour televoting rubbish.
ESC 2010 - 100% Jury vote please - or at least give the jury vote the balance of power - say 75/25 or 60/40.
I want to see the jury votes vs. televotes too!
And I also think next year only the countries in the final should vote. And maybe 50% juries in the semi finals too. At least try one year and see.
I wanna see the jury members from all 42 participating countries...! where they are??? what did they give for points?
please for next year:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
let just the final participating countries to vote!!!
I think (I am not only with this opinion) we wanna see the FULL points from 1-12 by spokersperson!!!
since 2006 there's no excitiment!
I'm sorry but I totally don't get the last statistics
I'm really proud of Hadise. To be honest I dont think its really fair to still be moaning about the diaspora voting... since it was 50% jury voting. The fact that Germany gave Turkey 10 points instead of 12 shows that the jury has had some effect.
Furthermore, I was NOT shocked that the UK gave Turkey 12 points because the song is VERY popular amongst the Turkish community here; the song is ALWAYS on the radio... and even Andrew Loyd Web thought she would do well.
Also, regarding France, its again not fair to say that Turkish immigrants are the sole factor for the 12 points because last night because France had 5 million viewers last night... and only 500,000 Turks live in France (and obviously not all of them would be voting!).
Even Armenia gave Turkey points. They gave Turkey 10 points in the first semi and like 4 points in the final. This in my eyes shows that the song was liked!!! and was not just about diaspora voting...
Anyway... everybody wanted Norway to win... so thats they main thing.
I am very sad with the result of Spain of yesterday.
Feeling it very much, I hope that Spain withdraws from the festival.
Which member of any jury would have given a single vote to that RUSSIAN piece of sh***??? And Turkish performance was wubbish too. I can't understand at all why Malta, Sweden, Lithuania, Israel and Spain are so low in the scoretable, but it was obvious juries were going to support the UK and France (something good, of course).
what was the result just based on the phone voting???
Finland???? Iceland of course! I had a few drinks too many yesterday.
Norway and Finland won their semis. (televotes). The reached first and second place in the final where also juries were used.
Turkey and Azerbaijan were second in their semis. They reached third and fourth place in the final.
May we conclude that the juries made no difference at all, and that it was a fair result?
I think the old voting system was horrible! I was happy that EBU finally changed it but still.....EBU changed it in a very cunning way! I still think that the way we voted yesterday is not fair at all! Reason??? Let me tell you. So we had 50% televoting and that is ok with me but then we had 50% jury voting. I liked that too but I wasn't happy at all when I heard that every country had a jury!!what? Hello.........wouldn't cyrpiots still vote for greece? wouldn't denmark and iceland still vote for norway? what? I still could predict where the points were going and in most cases i succeeded. The jury made some difference but not much. Ok, so we got the Eastern countries off teh list to do another block votes as we used to between the nordic countries.
I'm sorry but I didn't see anything special in Alexander yesterday......last Thursdya he gave a better perfromance than yesterday. Yesterday Turkey was great and Malta was wonderful! perfect! what kind of juries would give more points to the russian woman shouting, to the German guy acting like he likes that 60's fashoned woman, to Azerbaijan with such a common pop song, to Moldova and to other countries who didn't give a great rendition of their song like Chiara or Kejsi or the Swedish queen of ice did! come on! The juries were still biased! There should be one and only one jury made up of professional singers or musicians from USA, Asia and Africa. No europeans. Then there whousl be another jury made up of different european singers, musicians , authors and fans. But these juries should be somewhere watching it on tv, without having any contact what so ever with singers etc. The juries should not be named in public before teh result is out and the juries shoudl be contacted only a week or two before so that they won't have time to meet the singers. This would be a real transparent professional jury. Come on EBU! let's have a clean eurovision for once!
Well done Alexander....cause although personally I think you didn't really do your best yesterday, you still had a very good song! well done! see you all next year in NORWAY!
I am so glad that Iceland-country without neighbours is 2nd.
And congrats Norway
@lina : i think u must give a break about creating bad scenarios about sakis's and hadise's results... of course we know that sakis got 10 or 12 points from united kingdom's televoting but their jurry didn't like his song.. and other jurries didn't like "this is our night" like me too.. there was nothing special in this song and also performance was under average.. if you are asking for a reason for sakis's result that's it.
and how turkey could enter top 5? thank god jurries came back and we got some votes from nearly 30 countries... we don't have a diaspora in 30 countries.. and in the old we couldn't get these votes with only televoting.. jurries r affected by hadise's sympathy and great stage performance.. she shined on the stage.. düm tek tek was the most rythmic song in the final so possibly many people were saying "can u feel the rythym in my haeat..." during televoting..
remember that : armenia allways got high points from germany,france..etc too why they couldn't get 8-10-12 this year? because only their diaspora voted for them yesterday, not jurries and euroepeans.. european jurries and televoters loved düm tek tek.. that's obvious..
@Anthony Berardinelli
I don't think all 12 points should be announced (just re-read my post) My suggestion was to ONLY announce 1point-2 pointss- 3 points - 5 points and 7 points as the highest possible points.
I aggree it wouldn't have made a big difference this year (nothing would) but it would still avoided the quick rush through the 1-7 un announced points and would once again create a more user friendly and exciting scoreboard.
BTW Just did this year with this system and it would change the outcome only slightly (and not at all in the top 6)
I'M VERY HAPPY FOR AZERBAIJAN!!!!I WAS SURE THAT WE WOULD BE IN TOP 5,BUT I REALLY DIDN'T EXPECT THE THIRD PLACE!!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU EUROPE!!!!
THANKS EVERYONE WHO VOTED FOR US!!!!CONGRATULATIONS NORWAY!!!YOU WERE THE BEST!
P.S but i didn't expect Iceland to be the second (((
First of the Turkish performance was outstanding.. Eurovision is a visual contest and the on-stage performance is very importart. so Turkey could have received points from both jurors and televoters.. and yes switching from 12 to 10 pts is a difference because to get 10 pts overall.. You need 12pts from the televoting and over 4-5 points from the jurors.. and ur sentiments towards Turkey makes me think u have something against them... why dont u say that Romania didn't get 12 from Spain.. or the 12 from Portugal to the Ukraine.. or why Switzerland didn't give 12 to Bosnia...
You will never be able to overthrow diaspora/neighbour voting because there are cultural ties involved even with jurors.. I'm pretty sure the Greek jurors gave their 12 to Sakis..
@Sara concratulations !!! I love Norway !!! And u know 10 points from Cyprus = 12 points
And since u speak about Turkey is obvious that Turkey boycott favory countreys
i say 10 or 12 i didnt mention the points of each countrey to Turkey , and u r comment about Greek " boycott" its out of order , beacuse if we start to say " that countrey dont vote as so we must to do the same " ESC will be a big salad, i say that Grece didnt get any points from Azerbaijan and Turkey beacuse most of the people from that 2 countreys in ESCtoday have Greece in top 5 and they speak very good for Greek entry, i dont have anything with Turkish song but jurys couldnt stop immigrants and neighbour voting ! And btw Germany and Netherlands give 10 points to Turkey do u thing is a big change from 12 to 10 points? France , Switzerland and UK didnt change at all they r traditional 12 points to Turkey, that song was soooooooooo perfect who jurys and televoters agree? Anyway i dont want to have any argument here beacuse i m from Cyprus and maybe some persons things that i speak like that beacuse of politics. But if u see Romania gave to Moldova 12 points and vers, Andorra to Spain 12 points, all Nordic and Baltic countreys give huge points to each others and also ex yugo countreys and some persons says " and final to our neighbour ... 12 points" or " 10 points to our neighbour from the left and 12 points to our neighbour to the right " ha ha ha , that is 50/50 voting system? Personal i found that 50/50 worst than 100% televoting
This year Eurovisions' rules are something fuckin one.
ARMENIA is in 10th place:-( Jury will take account vocal data not show and Armenian singers absolutely have it.
For me Armenia is the best!!!I'm glad for Norway too.
Thank you Europe
I had never excpected much points from every country (the 3 points from Turkey was a bit cute)

Thanks so much
(
sorry i meant.. 1982 when Germany won.. not 1984
@ Jens Raduschewski
even if the whole points had been announced or not.. We would still had a winner with over 400 points.. so i don't understand whats your point there..
There was a loss of excitement this year because we know Norway was the winner with only a quarter of the countries voting.. but that happened already in 1984, 1994 and 1997.
@ Lina love u all !!
The juries DID make a great impact.. if it wasnt for them: well Norway would have won anyways but won't have received 16 sets of 12 points, trust me, and for your information.. Germany and the Netherlands gave their 12s to NORWAY, not to Turkey.. something that wouldn't have happened with televoting-alone.
And your comment about Greece was absurd.. The only countries with a large greek diaspora are Germany and the UK.. and they gave them 6 and 5 points (not 1 or 2 like u said) and Romania gave them 8 (not 0 like u said).. and with your comment about Turkey.. well.. The Greek juries boycotted the Turkish entries for around 20 years, so???
@euro music i thing televoting with only 1 call for each countrey, and west people to wake up and voting beacuse in most of west countreys 95% of the voting is coming from immigrants , jury must to stop , we saw what happen last night and i give one example in my reaction below
I agree only for Norway, Iceland and Azerbaijan places
Am I the only one who thinks that the entire voting procedure has lost a lot of its excitment? Why not just have the countries announce 1-2-3-5 and 7 points. By cutting down on "what a wonderful show" or "you look great" comments, enough time could be made to allow for five results. The whole quick run down of the 1 to 7 points at the moment is fast and confusing. Do we realy need a winner with nearly 400 points? I miss the days when countries announced the 1-12 points (confirmed in 2 languages), I know the show can't go on for more than 3 hours, but there must be a better way....
