Tonight: Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008

Tonight, Europe will tune in for the 6th Junior Eurovision Song Contest, live from the Spyros Kyprianou Arena in Lemesos, Cyprus. 15 countries are represented in this year's running, and it is up to televoters and professional juries across Europe to decide upon the winner. The televoting revenue goes entirely to the good work of UNICEF, supporting safe drinking water for children all over the world. The show will be hosted by Sophia Paraskeva and Alex Michael, and directed by Klitos Klitou.

WHERE TO WATCH THE SHOW?

Tonight at 20:15 Central Europe Time, the 2008 Junior Eurovision Song Contest can be watched on TV channels across Europe. If you live in one of the following countries, you can watch the show live: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, FYR Macedonia, Georgia, Greece, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia and Serbia. Viewers in Australia as well as in Ukraine can watch the show on television later on.

You can also watch the show LIVE on the official website of the event, here. Shortly afterwards, you can watch the show on demand right there.

The show is a production of Cypriot public broadcaster CyBC, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and UNICEF.

BIG NAMES IN TONIGHT'S SHOW

Dima Bilan, winner of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, will perform his winning song Believe and his hit song Number One Fan. Evridiki & Dimitris Korgialas, who represented Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 with Comme Ci, Comme Ça, will perform the show's theme song Fun In The Sun.

World famous stars Shakira, David Beckham, Robbie Williams and Whoopie Goldberg will address TV viewers, wishing the contestants good luck and asking to vote in support of the great work UNICEF is doing worldwide.

Last year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest winner Alexey from Belarus will hand over the award to tonight's winner.

Belguim, Cyprus and FYR Macedonia should had been top 3,
But i never thought that would happen. I thought atleast Ukraine would had won so i was very surprised when Georgia did. But well done to them.

Oh my, this is the 4th time in a row victory for USSR country.
Anyway, congratulations for Georgia, even though it's strange. I feel like this was given to them because they won't enter the real ESC next year. Serbia was OK, she deserved at least top 10.

Welldone Cyprus for organization. It was nice, the stage was nice, presenters, ... almost as good as real Eurovision (and for sure better then real ESCs before Riga).

Now we can start preparing for Moscow

FYR Macedonia does well when they send good songs.
And Belarus(cheesy)/Russia(horrible)/Armenia(boring) were in top 10 while Belgium and Netherlands didn't. Same for Cyprus(i can't get why they don't do well when they send really good entries!)

Danniela every year you keep sayin NONSENSES!!!!! Ofcourse jury changed some things slightly. Lithuania, Malta and FYR Macedonia managed to do better from Belarus and Russia and Armenia fianally failed to receive the traditional 10 and 12 from its diaspora.

Mina
"My God, that Georgian buzzing was almost as awful as the Azeris in esc (sorry Stockholm)"
I pretend I didn't hear that last part :D Yes, Oliver should have competed in ESC instead ;)

I thought Bobi from FYROM sounded a bit like Tose.

Ajdin Mehic:

Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia gave 12points to Serbia. I'm sure both televoting and jury gave it 12p.

50/50 didn't work in JESC (maybe because the majority of the countries belonged in the east)

don't know if it works in ESC, i think (and hope) that it will work as in senior ESC there are countries from all over Europe!

PS: If the Cypriot entry represented Belarus, it would have def. be in top 3!! This is for sure!

@Adrian Collins
An Eastern country wins - quelle surprise

Well, as Belgium and Netherlands were the only countries from (geographically) the west of Europe, it's hardly surprising an 'Eastern' country won. You've got to be in it, to win it....

Personally, I thought the 3 top songs were the best ones, and they got votes from all over the place, so I do think the juries made a positive difference.

@Ajdin

Oh my God! Danniela are you realy serious?!

When would on earth Ukraine give 8 pts to Macedonia on real Eurovision? When on earth would Cyprus give 7 pts to Greece? Serbia gave 12 pts to Lithuania. Russia gave 12 pts to Georgia...

And you say that jury can't change anything. PLEASE. Every single country gave BIG points to Georgia and you now say that the winner acctualy won politicaly.

:@

Danniela

last year in JESC Ukraine gave Russia 8 pts. even without jury. The only reason why we give 10 or 12 to Russia its because russian singers are famous here. So people know them and vote.

Well done Georgia! But Ukraine was much better in my opinion, if they had won that would look like JESC would go to the winner country next year :) FYR Macedonia was also my favorite, sonded like R&B :)

One other thing. Nice to have a western Europe Country in the top 5. Malta did much better than what I thought

So do juries change something?????
Armenia: 8pts/Ukraine - 10pts/Russia - 12pts/Georgia
Belarus: 8pts/Georgia - 10pts/Ukraine - 12pts/Russia
Russia: 8pts/Ukraine - 10pts/Belarus - 12pts/Georgia
Georgia: 8pts/Armenia - 10pts/Lithuania - 12pts/Ukraine
Ukraine: 8pts/FyroMacedonia 10pts/Malta - 12pts/Georgia
(only 7pts to Russia..bigmama will get angry....)
Lithuania: 8pts/Russia - 10pts/Ukraine - 12pts/Georgia
Greece: 12pts/Cyprus
I was sure an ex-soviet country was going to win but i thought it would be Ukraine...!!
Its a SHAMEEEEEEEEEEEEE that JURIES cant change anything whoever thought so is an IDIOT.

Congratulations Georgia! But are you sure that was expert juries controling half the voting? The Georgian Entry did stand out from the rest.

I wonder what were the results with 100% televote.

C u in Kiev.

so cyprus gave greece 7 . jury maybe?

Michael, apparenly you haven't been following JESC. Last year we only got 2 pts from Cyprus with no jury involved.

Candyman 12 points [14078]
Sat 22 Nov 2008 22:26:25

Michael, the votes were a mix of televoting and jury! not only jury!

COngrats for the worst winner! But ok it's only a junior contest so i don't mind! Btw, damn FYROM for giving 10p to Lithuania! Malta is 4th ! Booh! Can't really get why Lithuania got so many votes! ANyway, i'm sure next year there will be less countries! Belgium Cyprus were robbed! And Netherlands was miles better than Russia !
