Over 1.5 million sessions in more than 163 countries
Record numbers for ESC 2008 webcast
Overall, more than 36 million minutes were consumed. These numbers complete record-breaking viewing figures regarding Eurovision Song Contest 2008 webcast. It has to be said that not all the countries tuning in to eurovision.tv broadcast the event live on their respective local broadcasters, so webcast was the only way possible to follow the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in those nations.
These data reveal that webcast services are currently taking advantage, and so said EBU's Nicoletta Iacobacci: “Broadband penetration is on the rise everywhere, and streaming should no longer be considered a supplement to traditional broadcasts. In fact, for global broadcasts like these, it’s really the other way around and using Octoshape we have a proven and viable solution for large scale, high quality, global webcasts.”
Collaboration between EBU and Octoshape will continue in order to provide fans with high resolution streams of Eurovision events like national finals and the Eurovision Song Contest itself. Next event to be webcast will be the forthcoming Eurovision Dance Contest, next September in Glasgow.
Remember that you still can re-watch the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest final here .

Eurovision becomes stronger and stronger every year
Well done!
It's time to party!
At least I know the Swedish televoting results in semi 2 and the final.
i also think "believe" is the kind of ballad that juries would very much like
Maybe they don't want to upset their western friends..they rather let them believe that it was all cause of mean ex soviets
as far as i can remember in the last years, for ESC 2006, i am sure, the EBU released some time after the cntest the televoting results of each countries(or at least some countries) with the number of votes next to their 1pt, 2pt, e.t.c. And i also rememebr again ESC 2006 some days after the contest we got many back up jury results from many particcipating countries.
Why this secrecy now? I think there is something going wrong and i suppose the back up jury results were totaly different from the televoting this year..but still i also think "believe" is the kind of ballad that juries would very much like...EBU please issue some results!!
and we want the televoting results of each country and the numbers of televotes
I admit I would like to see those, too. I've looked for Greek televoting results (at least) but no luck.
Maybe the EBU is lying to us about Charlotte, maybe she wasn;t the jury choice (and they were scared of having ESC finals without sweden, for reasons i admit i understand
I don't believe that. Hero is the kind of old fashioned song that a jury would like just like the OGAE's did.
it's a lie about viewing rates!!
And where are the results of back up juries?? EBU answer!!! it's so stupid to hide the results..
and we want the televoting results of each country and the numbers of televotes like EBU announced them in 2004!
Great! But I agree there were obvious streaming problems of the first NF's.
Maybe the EBU is lying to us about Charlotte, maybe she wasn;t the jury choice (and they were scared of having ESC finals without sweden, for reasons i admit i understand). Don't tell me i'm paranoid, if therwasn;t anything to hide, the rankings would have been published.
In 2004 the EBU knew they were going to get cought with the mistakes in the semi results, so they quickly held a press conference, claiming responsibility, and using the word "transparency" over and over again. Where is this transperency now ?????
I think something is rotten in the Kingdom of Stcokselius.
Thanks to the webcast I got to watch both semi finals live in the Philippines. I'm very pleased with the live stream, and trust I will be watching next year's show in excellent quality - and without annoying commentators!
I would like to see the back up jury results although I don't see what could be so fishy, even if they were completely different from the televoting results, so what?
hy isn';t the EBU revealing the Backup jury resluts ? What are they hiding from us. This looks very very fishy !
* sorry I meant to say "pretty good I say", and "but esctoday is still better!"
Yeah!!! I added to this because I watched both semis on the internet!! (Although I watched the first one on the BBC internet stream, and the second one with eurovision.tv!) I would have actually chosen the BBC stream for both of them but it broke up during the second semi, so I swapped to eurovision.tv!!
(and if there was people watching in 163 countries, there were only 32 countries which didn't have any internet viewers . . . . . pretty good I saw!!
) Well done eurovision.tv, but esctoday is sitll better lol!!
broke all the viewing figures records ????????
Nice, but they need to get on their game. Early on when they broadcast the National Finals for countries, they had MAJOR streaming problems, that would overload the servers and such.
Good job though. I watched the Final nonlinear since my satellite was out.
