Brrrrr, Prohod'ko, what a horrible russian singers BURR dare to post here in comments about Sweden - country who would never intend to send to ESC someone like such a rubbish wailing banshee, she can't sing at all, she only screams.
Jonny:
Yet another Swede. I'm glad y o u mentioned him, I didn't dare
Stockholm
Yes, the english version is very nice, we have Jovan Radmomir to thank for that!
Vincent
It took me by surprise because a ballad hadn't won eurovision since 1997, and with so many gimmicks nowadays, it seemed unlikely she would win.
Although i'm glad she did!
Jonny:
lol. I started to like Molitva after I had heard the English version. I prefer it to the Serbian one.
molitva was such a nice ballad..at first hearing i could tell that this would win ESC 2007: nice melody, a very nice and dramatic bridge reminding a bit the titanic song..and even though Marija was not looking like any other female beauty queen of the contest, i still thought she would impress the voters evn without any gimmicks or semi naked go go dancers. Actually i was very please to see this song winning.. After the disastrous masquerade and bad surprise of the Lordi thing, we had a real, true song winning the contest..Molitva is one of the best winning songs for me ever, and i am suprrised that its victory tok you by surprise
Mina
I can see where you're coming from, after the contest I really couldn't understand why it was sooo popular! Although since then i've come to like it, especially after hearing the english version . . . . . I started to like it so much so I learned to play it on piano!
I've listened to that song 1,000 times, I was thinking ok, there must be something I'm missing about it..but still nothing. The music is ok but that's all...and if I try to watch it, it's even worse ....lol
Mina
Oh I see!! I didn't think it would win because I never expected a non-english, ballad to win sung by a singer that looks like my brother!
When I was watching the contest I honestly thought Russia or Ukraine would walk it, and Serbia would float around 8-10th place
When Serbia did win I was a bit hacked off, but now i've come to like the song and I am glad they won
Stockholm,
yes, you had 6 correct predictions so you win!
Jonny
I I would never have predicted Marija Serifovic, that was a real surprise
Same here...I was looking at the TV, speechless..lol
But I think the reason was simple...in the last years, most winner songs had gotten some publicity in Greece before the contest...that song had passed unnoticed.
Stockholm
Yes! But don't worry, I don't think you're losing the plot!!
Jonny:
You may wonder what I was babbling about in my previous post. Now when I watched the Calleth you ..... video there were no longer any "related videos" at the end.
Mina:
I thought that Helena, Ruslana and Sertab were rather obvious winners and I was pretty sure about Dima and Marie N too.
In 2000 I was in Stockholm Globen when people came out of the arena after the dress rehearsal. To my surprise everyone said that the Olsen Brothers were going to win. Then I knew.
Does that make it 6 ?
I've predicted Diva, Take me to your heaven, I wanna, Helena and Believing..5 winners in 11 yrs..hmmmm not so bad after all!
Wow thats good Mina!!! I'm rubbish at predictions!
I predicted Lordi, thats about it, although I kind of predicted Dima, I had a suspicion that it would have been Ani instead
I would never have predicted Marija Serifovic, that was a real surprise
Stockholm
I don't know why they aren't very well known in the UK . . . . . I suppose the UK market is very hard for any artists to crack, however I think with a song like "new pollution" they could do very well in the UK market. They would need very good promotion though
ESC 2007 was my 2nd time in the whole history of my career as a eurovision fan that i predicted the winner..the other one was 2005
I've predicted Diva, Take me to your heaven, I wanna, Helena and Believing..5 winners in 11 yrs..hmmmm not so bad after all!
i ahve never undestood this big fuss about Andorra last year..really not..the "worrying kind was ok as a song"..and ESC 2007 was my 2nd time in the whole history of my career as a eurovision fan that i predicted the winner..the other one was 2005, i knew from the beginning Helena would win.only the last very few days i got insecure.a bit
I also liked The Ark of course, Andorra, France, Finland, Germany. As you can see, I nailed it
LOL me too last year. Although generally I can guess the top 5, but rarely the winner.
Mina/Vincent:
I think I prefer 2008 too.
Yes, last year Iceland sent a good rock ballad. I also liked The Ark of course, Andorra, France, Finland, Germany. As you can see, I nailed it. At least Hungary ended up top 10.
Jonny:
"Calleth you cometh I" is one of my favourites too. One of the related videos at the end is called 'The Ark Grona Lund (Calleth ...) 17/8/07'. It's from their Stockholm concert last year. I happen to be there in the crowd somewhere on the left side. The concert was fantastic, The Ark are such a great live band
How come they are not better known in The UK? They toured Britain and Ireland together with The Darkness in 2006.
I think "Death to the martyrs" is one of the best tracks on their latest album.
hopefully it's better this year...
..."it's not a Eurovision song but I like it (it did depress me a little :-() "..
Mina, lol! i find your answers sometimes very diplomatic and good :-)
BURR,
that's from one of your talent shows, isn't it? Anastasia is very beautiful and she has a very good voice, it's not a Eurovision song but I like it (it did depress me a little
)
@Burr:
the video you have posted sounds like "a cry of a tchehtenian woman for freedom"..i do not understand any russian, but is she really singing about peace, e.t.c.?
Stockholm
Wow, how cool!!!
I'd never have guessed it, and calleth you cometh I is one of my favourite songs by them. Although my all time favourites are "death to the martyrs" and "clamour for glamour"!
Mina, this time i fully agree with you ESC 2008 was for me also a much better contest..not only the entries, but everything..i found the finnish stage one of the smallest and worst stage of the last 7 years, the presenters kind of,,,nothing, the interval act, the clips and the intro film very bad. The Greek entry was for me just ok..I liked the way Sarbel danced, esecially in the bridge of the song, but i think many europeans have misunderstood this and thought it was feminine or weird... i voted for Malta(like crazy, some 50 times, for Cyprus and for Bulgaria in the semis), and for Greece(some..40 times :-) and Serbia in the final
I think 2008 was a much better year, I liked many songs. Last year had many songs I couldn't stand.
Hmmmm..from the ones you liked, I liked comme ci comme ca..I didn't like Molitva or the Bulgarian song. The song from Iceland was ok. The song I loved was the Hungarian one. From the rest, the Swedish song was ok (didn't like the singer though), and I found our song groovy
