7th edition goes north

JESC - Ukraine: To host Junior Eurovision 2009

NTU, the Ukrainian broadcaster, has won the bid to host the 7th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest next year in Kyiv. NTU, who also hosted successfully the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest after Ruslana's victory in Istanbul, are proud and honoured to welcome children from all over Europe this time.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the largest and most viewed children entetainment event in the world, will be travelling north to Ukraine for its 7th edition after this year's contest which will be held in Limassol, Cyprus. "All bids the Steering Group received were of high standard," says Svante Stockselius, Executive Supervisor of the event on behalf of the EBU.

"We are confident that NTU will host a superb show, and we hope that those broadcasters who were unsuccessful this time will consider bidding for the 2010 running," said Steve De Coninck-De Boeck, Chairman of the Steering Group.

Viktoria Romanova, Head of Delegation on behalf of NTU stated that Ukraine are very proud and honoured to welcome children from all over Europe to Kyiv next year, and are looking forward to host a great show.

Ukrainian hostiong of ESC was very poor.
Dark hall, dark stage, bad hosts, ..
graphics and postcards were nice thou.

Helsinki and Belgrade are the best ESCs ever IMO

Anyway, this is JESC and even Moldova could host it

Where is the new site of the JESC?

yeah, that's good, Ukraine hosted ESC 2005 very nicely, where in Greece 2006 the monsterous victory caused some people to think of Eurovision as a stupid show.....

the best ESC till now, is the one in Istambul!!

Xevus:

Ukraine's organisation was a failure. Don't u remember it? Plus, there weren't many fans and the spectators were cold as an ice. No applause except Ukraine & maybe Moldova.
Malta should host a Eurovision event like Cyprus will do in November.

So i won't watch jESC09, i doubt if there will be till then LOL

@ Edin - actually it only shows your ignorance.
Ukraine is not very poor country :) our budget for 2009 will be more than 50 billion $
and hosting JESC doesn't require a lot of money. Actually it will be sponsored by NTU AND commercial companies who will provide the biggest amount of $$$.
it just shows how less you know about Ukraine & Eurovision ;)

Just waiting here for Belgium, the Netherlands and Malta to come to their senses and pull out of this silly contest. The West doesn't need to be involved in this.

Isn't it too much for Ukraine???
Junior ESC, this year's Miss World Contest, European Football Championship 2012,...
And this all should be held in a very poor country!

Kevin Knight

Not nessesarly. For all we know some of the countries may pull out next year. Even though Cyprus won the right to host it this year, the EBU at first did not promise it would go ahead. Now it will.

I hope JESC will continue because I do love it at it was watching the 1st one that got me into Eurovision.

Poland should come back :)

There were no western countries bidding anymore, so of course it is going to be in an Eastern European country! And this will be only the 2nd time that the JESC is going to a real Eastern European country. Look at the history:

2 times in Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway)
2 times in the Benelux (Netherlands, Belgium)
1 times in the Mediterrean (Cyprus)
2 times in Eastern Europe (Romania, Ukraine)

Check your facts! ;)

no!

that means there will still be a JESC after this year :(

but congrats to Ukraine ;)

I would have thought this would have gone to Belarus since they've taken part every year and have won the thing twice. Will this be hosted in the same place that the 2005 contest took place?

So ESC 2009 in Russia and JESC 2009 in Ukraine. What a coincidence!
