In my humble opinion, Ani Lorak is way more arrogant than Dima Bilan, but he's getting all the bad press.
Ani made the following comment 'We were so close, and then Russia took the lead and won. We were speechless for a while'....ummmmmmmmm, excuse me? When were they so close? Greece was close and Ukraine was way behind...towards the end of the contest they managed to climb to the 2nd position, still a good 42 points behind Russia...and no, THEY don't have the excuse of 'we lost because of neighbour voting'
And another comment by her was that her performance will remain in the history of ESC as one of the best....if Dima had said that...WOW everyone would go on and on about how arrogant and full of himself he is.
Go Ani! Shady lady was the best show this year. Excellent song, performance, and vocals. Shame can't be there tonight. Don't want Dima boring me anyway.
omg so when i saw the esc and i heard the russia song, it sounded familiar..... the last week i heard that timbaland is the producer. Today i heard 'believe' well and i heard a familiar beat in the backgroud, so i decided to hear other timbaland song to compare them...and i started with 'Apologize' of Timbaland ft. One Republic and i discovered that the back-beat is identical (just a bit louder) and even the tune is very similar! So thats why it sounded so familiar! Tajjeb eh! So all the countries work their guts out to be original then Russia send a remix of Apologize! At this rate we might as well just send Madonna or Rihanna
I agree with you John, Russia did win by the rules but I think those rules need to be changed. Because those rules are the start of all the evil in this case. As long as the televoting stays in its current form, nothing will change and next year Armenia will win.
To Fariz and Miljan,
I am personally a huge Tina Turner fan. I 've seen her over the years about 50 times live (btw she will give 3 concerts in March 2009 in London, sold out...), I have met her on a personal base and she has no attitude, she's not arrogant and there you can recognize a real star... Real stars are friendly because they know that fan's are their bread and butter. Dima is going for a few years and already so full of himself, unbelievable. But I doubt Dima wil be around as long as miss Turner
marc, when you say that eurovision is turning into a war full of hate, I wonder who is responsible for that. The way people address each other and other contestants on this website is sometimes full of hate, I agree with you there. I don't see why people should hate singers who won by the rules of the game - even if they don't like their songs, or even if they think this singer is arrogant...as if that's relevant in a song contest.

I doubt very many people in the UK would like to see Dima - we didn't give him a single point!
Dima a cheater! Believe is a plagiarism
http://www.index.hr/(...)ijatquot/388675.aspx
Hahaha, I don't take autographs either!
The one from Plusenko was for a friend
And - again my opinion - really good singers and performers are almost never arrogant, or at least not unfoundedly so.
we argue, because we have different values. for me friendliness and vocal are not so important. stars have to be at least a bit "unattainable". at the same time, i speak Russia, so apparently he could deliver his messages much better to us - Russian-speakers. Also, he was very friendly when i was asking his autographs for my western friends (i never collect autographs personally) or asking to take pictures.
@Fariz:
See, don't judge people you don't know at all
I LOVE Russia!
But Dima really didn't deserve the victory and all of this was a cheap act.
As for the song - god in heaven's, I ADORE Timbaland and everything that sounds like his music
@Darko: I was talking about the very first press conference where he almost swallowed the mike and spoke in his nonsense english and you couldn't understand him at all... but yeah, that press conference was horrible, too... especially that he didn't even let the journalist ask him a question, but he spoke about something "I hopp, I hopp" (I hope, probably) and the jorunalist had to cut him down and just ask his question - which he didn't get answered anyway...
And what I was pissed at was his fakeness and screaming... every serious singer (like opera, you know) will tell you that the more somebody "acts" during singing, the worse the singing is. Dima's live performance was everything but good, and he didn't sing the high parts well even once. And he was constantly off key on "DO it all..." But it doesn't matter, the performance looked cool on TV. Anyway - Ani Lorak, Vania, Boaz, Vlad and Nico, even the No Angels, Rodolfo and everybody was friendly to the press and fans who wanted to take photos with them, but Dima was (at several occasions at the parties) like he wasn't even there and you can't even ask him anything because the bodyguard just jumps at you and his manager has to "look at you" first to see if you can have a photo with him (happened to a friend of mine who likes him). Plusenko on the other hand was very friendly, talking to everybody, taking pictures, giving autographs. And again, for Fariz - I am not desperate - 36 countries voted for him and he won, just like everybody had to accept Lordi 2006. But saying his vocals were great when you have such voices as Boaz, Ani, Vania, Vlad & Nico and others is just BS.
@Fariz:
I guess you're right, I myself am arrogant at times, but I don't like it when somebody shows no real quality, but arrogance (and ignorance) only. And Dima did that a lot.
it is also a matter of your attitude toward arrogance. in the cases when it is reasonable, i appreciate arrogance, and i usually like personalities like Silvia Night (although her personality is at the same time her act), Carola and etc.
But honestly, i never could observe anything close to what you here mean. i was on all press-conferences, parties, etc and just have a different impression.
@John: Why would it be sad to boo at somebody you don't like and watch them live? Why is showing and expressing your negative opinion sad, but praising somebody you like isn't?
ok, Mijan, i just thought that you don´t like Dima because of Russia.
i was not watching the semi or final in the PC, as i was in the hall. I am not a fan of Dima, but usually his songs are in my regular tunes at home. so, i really like Believe. although, i think it could have been performed better.
as to Norway, i mentioned it, because marc had said no western countries had chances to get into top 10.
I'd never boo him or anyone else (a question of personal temperament) - but I agree with Miljan in almost every word. Bilan came off like a total pratt at the press conference after the first semi - it was painful to watch an ego being inflated to monster size. Even Pluschenko, sitting right next to him, was clearly embarrassed by the behaviour and the syntax of his team mate who came off like Bobby Brown on crack. The UK viewers will remember how Darius came across when he first appeared on Simon Cowell's telly and how laughably big-headed he was...well, this was far worse.
@Fariz: I am not lying. The press didn't like their behaviour - the majority of the press anyway. And some of the contestants I spoke to had the same opinion. And I am NOT desperate that he won - as I said once - to a true fan it doesn't really matter who won, but that there are songs you can listen to after the contest, too.
And I never said there was booing at the press centre, I said at the afterparty, but maybe those people were outnumbered by those who liked him. But you should have been there in the press centre for the first semi and watch with the journalists and hear the booing
And again, nobody has the right to be arrogant before they win. That's just disgusting. Plusenko and Marton were great, but Dima and the rest were just... yuck. And besides, I am happy for Russia as a country, and I like the song, just not the way he sings it.
And as for the west - some people should first learn some geography. Last year some people put Hungary into East Europe. And you mentioned Norway - it got so high because it had a good song. The big 4 and the rest should learn frmo that.
marc, first of all, i have not "moved" to Germany. i am here for some business and also other stuff, which i am not going to explain to you. second of all, you dont have be committed to some ideology/political vector and necessarily stay in a country which provides it nowadays.
Fariz,
Why did you move to Germany ?
x
marc x, what about Finnland winning the contest just 2 years ago?
anyway, the 21 st century is the time for great economic/political shifts toward the East, why not Eurovision be part of the trend.
marc x, you "western countries" had Norway as the 5th this year.
mijan, watch what you are saying here. not only you were in the arena or PC. you are explicitly lying here. because you are so desperate that DIMA has won. I never heard any booing in the hall or PC. what a BS! the Russian delegation was great, and even if they might appear to some of you arrogant, they fully deserve to be arrogant. I support their arrogance! Dima´s name had been now goldened as he has brough a victory to the great RUSSIA!
And more, if France won't be directly in final (which I totally agree with), I give it another 2 years max before France will call it a day....
John,
You know what's sad my friend, that we Western countries have no chance in hell anymore to get even a top 10 position, every year we struggle to sent something decent and every year we get the carbage lid onto our faces... That's sad.... Eurovision is turning into a real war, a war full of hate and it's a pity. The original idea of Eurovision, celebrating Europe, has lost its meaning completely. It's all about money now and the fun is gone.... I wish I was stronger and would be able no distance myself, but every year I watch it again (hoping things wil improve), but they don't, they get worse every year. I am asking how much longer will this contest exist in this form, it will be taken over by Eastern Europe completely, and that's sad... I am french and one of the original countries, first we saw yuguslavia split (Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia had to do their own selection of whom to sent to the contest), than they could all participate. More splitting, 1 country divided into Serbia, Montenegro, Craotia, Bosnia, Slovenia and Macedonia. So 1 country into 6... and they all vote for each others, same with Ex-Russian states, Scandinavia. Well my friend if your country does not belong to any of those 3 great blocs, or if your countrymen not spread all over other European country, you have no future anymore.... Look at Portugal, by far the most beautiful song this year, and best performance, and what did they get, a lowsy 13th place. If Portugal would have sent Dima Bilan with "believe", I am pretty sure he would NOT have reached top 10. That's a fact my friend, ....
From a very sad French Eurovision fan....
Ani outclass Dima on stage poor thing, and on stage at the same time poor poor thing
I'd love somebody to "prove" to me that Dima had the best vocals of the night lol.
