The 2008 Bezençon Awards winners
The Marcel Bezençon Awards, named after the EBU director who in 1955 conceived the idea of the Eurovision Song Contest, have been given out since 2002 in three categories with one more being added this year. The Composer's Award winner this year was Andrei Tudor for his composition Pe o margine de lume, performed by Nico and Vlad Mirita for Romania. The winner of this award is voted for by all the composers participating in the final of contest.
Former Eurovision Song Contest winners vote for the Artistic Award which this year went to Ani Lorak from Ukraine. The Press Award, which is given to the most popular song among the accredited members of the press each year was awarded to the Portuguese entry Senhora do mar. Paolo Coehlo's song, performed by Vania Fernandes, was one of the favourites of the fans and press members throughout both Eurovision weeks.
And last but not least a newly introduced award was presented this year, the Fan Award by Swedish website gylleneskor.se. Readers of the site had the opportunity to vote online for their favourite 2008 artist under the age of 25 which was non other but Armenia's Qele, qele performed by Sirusho.

Yeah I completely agree with u about Sirusho and Qele Qele... ppl 4get that she had a crapy number... if she was one of the last performers like russia, ukraine and greece she would`ve got a better placing then 4th and maybe even won the whole thing
I'm tired of people saying Portugal did not win because if its"outdated song". Give me a break!!!!! If that is the case then classical music or folk music IS NOT MUSIC!!!?????????
This event is a SONG FESTIVAL!!! not ONLY for rock n'rol, pop, rap, etc music performances, but for ALL KINDS OF MUSIC!
If there is anything anyone can say is that Portugal did not reach the first five places in the final due to political voting - obviously here I would also include western Europe whose countries also voted for each other. The only difference is that in the east there are many more smaller countries that voted for their neighnours or for daddy Russia!!!!
"Pe-o Margine De Lume"- classy, elegant, beautiful and absolutely sublime. The composers, Nico & Vlad did an amazing job for Romania this year. 20th position was an insult for this song!!! One of my favourites...the magic will last forever
Ani Lorak is absolutely gorgeous!

And Sirusho, well...my favourite this year without a doubt! "Qele, Qele" is sooo catchy all you can do it submit to its power and dance!!! I think that if Sirusho had performed say in 20th position instead of 5th, there's a very good chance she could have won!
and let's not forget, she's gorgeous as well
I found an interesting article at this website:
www.jonworth.eu/qel(...)-have-won-eurovision
PS: He`s not Armenian
so it says:
Qele victoire! Why Armenia should have won Eurovision
OK, there are 142.2 million people in Russia, Europe’s largest country voting in Eurovision. San Marino, the smallest, has a mere 20000. But when it comes to the votes allocated in Eurovision each county’s votes count equally. If you think the EU’s Qualified Majority Voting system for legislation is bad, try Eurovision’s system - it’s a terrible distortion in favour of the smaller countries. Plus as most of the (small) Balkan countries vote for each other, and Russian minorities in the small Baltic and Caucusus countries vote for Russia you get a skewed result.
So here’s the alternative: weight each country’s votes according to that country’s population. OK, this assumes that voting turnout in all countries is the same, but it’s inherently a fairer system. Taking the populations of European countries from Wikipedia, and the official Eurovision results table I have come up with this adjusted Excel table. The result: Armenia (Qele, Qele) wins with a population-adjusted 5935.1 points, ahead of Greece (4251.6 points) and Azerbaijan (3796.1 points). Russia, the actual winner, manages only 5th place in the population adjusted results. Sadly even with the adjusted results the UK is still rooted to the bottom in 25th place.
U can find the charts and stuff on his page and c how 2 came 2 this conclusion
Here`s a nice video with the Fan favorite Sirusho doing her famous boob popping move and the remix of the most popular esc song of the year:

how could i vote swedish website gylleneskor.se. for some artis if that page is not in english. this page is only for swedish people, i dont get, where is the sense of that award.
we could do THE SAME AWARD in some other country LOL
I liked " Qele Qele "..... Sirusho knows how to entertain
BUT I LOVED ANI LORAK
I also voted for her .... AMAZING and SEXY
Qele Qele the best song of 2008 Eurovision theme
Cara Mia the best song of 2007 Eurovision theme
Tornero the best song of 2006 Eurovision theme
Ok My Award of the Best song is Qele Qele.
Congrats again to our Vania, that song really deserves to receive an award! I have already heard that the press thought we were the best
and for those who say the song is out of date wake up! It is meant to me a traditional song, with a lot of meaning and that expresses one's country culture
Congrats to both Ukraine and Armenia!
@ Danny T
if we took out all the immigrant votes from the UK and Irish televote you might find Portugal would've got votes. But there aren't zillions of Portuguese in those 2 countries unlike Turks, Balts, Greeks, Cypriots, Poles etc
Sorry but Portugal didn't get any points from the UK or Ireland because it just isn't a popular style of music in these countries. I never got the popularity of the song on this website and it really wouldn't have stood out here among the other entries. That is why Norway, Iceland and Greece did so well cos they are closer to the style of music that is popular here. Portugal was 20 years out of date in my mind
Yes! All four decisions are correct. Pity though about Russia winning though :-(
especially thanks 4 that countries whose vote to us (Armenia)...
Greece,Russia,Georgia,Poland,T chekia,Belgum,TheNrtherlands
,France, for 12 points & thanks for 10 points to Spaine ,Ukrain,Israel, Turkey,& 8 points Bulgaria,Cypruse,San Marino. & the others countries whose gave us at first time Sweden Bosnia, Serbia,Iceland,Germany,Romania ,Belarusse,& I am sorry if i forgot some one,& we wait next year from other countries to vote us especially north countries old friends (Estonia. Latvia,Lituania),& Norway,Finland,Danimark& way not from UK, Ireland(we wait from u points but...),Malta,Portugal,Swissra ,Coruatia, Macedonia,ets..we love all of u thanks.
I can't believe Greece didn't win one! How can you exclude No 3 from this list of countries!
Great that Vania got such an award, she certainly is the best!
But best composition for Romania? Please, that song was one of the lamest this year!
it is all politcal its so easy to know the votes of each coutry... look at my coutry portugal, he only received 7poists from western... all the 62 points where fom southern... it is like this a county like portugal, spain, france, uk, germany, andorra, switzerland have less opurtunitys to win... portugal had a strong song almost every southern country gave us poists (except uk and ireland dont know why) but the western no points to us! only croacia (3) serbia(1) and ukrain(3)... portugal is thinking in withraw next year and i love eurovision but now i think it should be named as westerneurovison song contest!
@ Jonny Stovner
Yeah I agree with u, Norway should`ve got the moral winner award while Portugal was just the best voice (the song was boring)... so I think they should`ve given it 2 Norway and made a New category where they could give the best voice award 2 Portugal
And I`m glad 2 c that the Armenian song got some recognition coz it was the best club/dancing song of the year (2gether with Greece)
Armenia !!!!I love you!!!
Norway is the musical and moral winner this year.
It is Carlos Coelho and Andrej Babic ( congrats btw. and hope to see you back at the ESC 2009 ! ) - Paolo c'est moi
The Press vote is as near to a jury vote as we are going to get. Therefore, Portugal is clearly the moral winner of ESC 2008.
Paulo Coelho is a famous writer from Brazil,
but the Portuguese song was written by Carlos Coelho
P
Congratulations to Portugal - Romania - Armenia and Ukraine :-))))
what no russia
Yeah I knew Qele Qele was really the most popular song of this years ESC... so Congrats 2 Sirusho and the composer Der Hova
