Scotland to host Eurovision event
Eurovision Dance Contest 2008: It's Glasgow
About Glasgow:
Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and third most populous in the United Kingdom. Fully named as the City of Glasgow, it is the most populous of Scotland's 32 unitary authority areas. The city is situated on the River Clyde in the country's west central lowlands. A person from Glasgow is known as a Glaswegian, which is also the name of the local dialect.
Glasgow grew from the medieval Bishopric of Glasgow and the later establishment of the University of Glasgow, which contributed to the Scottish Enlightenment. From the 18th century the city became one of Europe's main hubs of transatlantic trade with the Americas. With the Industrial Revolution, the city and surrounding region grew to become one of the world's pre-eminent centres of engineering and shipbuilding, constructing many revolutionary and famous vessels. Glasgow was known as the "Second City of the British Empire" in the Victorian era. Today it is one of Europe's top sixteen financial centres and is home to many of Scotland's leading businesses.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries Glasgow grew to a population of over one million, and was the fourth-largest city in Europe, after London, Paris and Berlin In the 1960s large-scale relocation to new towns and peripheral suburbs, followed by successive boundary changes, have reduced the current population of the City of Glasgow unitary authority area to 580,690. 1,750,500 people live in the Greater Glasgow Urban Area based on the 2007 population Estimate. The entire region surrounding the conurbation covers approximately 2.3 million people, 41% of Scotland's population.
The first Eurovision Dance Contest took place in the BBC Studios in London last year.

It's good the UK is hosting the contest again, but i think that Finland should have hosted it seeing as they won in 2007 =). Im glad it's not London and that it's a city not in England as the 'United Kingdom' is not just England as people sometimes refer it to >=(
Just random fun lol...

Hang on-why would football riots affect the hosting of a dance contest? It is very unlikly to cause riots!
I was in Scotland 4 years ago and its a wonderful place to visit!
Carol Smillie and Ken Bruce should present the show!
west end eurovision makes bbc news http://news.bbc.co.u(...)/england/7405846.stm
I don't know who'll be representing the UK but my money's on Carol Smillie to be presenting. She's Scottish, she's from Glasgow and she's done Strictly Come Dancing. Or is that a little too obvious? LOL Go Glasgow. Let's make it a double with Glasgow 2009 for ESC. Now that really is pushing it!

Somehow I don't think your Scottish dancing will have anywhere near the same success as our Irish counterpart
Well I hope we see some Scottish Highland Dancing from our representatives.
It is far more versatile and has more variety than Irish Dancing.
I assume the contest will be held in the new BBC Scotland studios on the Clyde.
pics of west end eurovision are online www.mattjamie.co.uk/theatremad
Woohoo! Go Scotland! So glad it is coming from my homeland! Hope there is a Scottish flavour to the evening, and I agree completely with whoever said Alesha Dixon shoudl compete for the UK, my god yes. Quite possibly the best idea ever! Wonder who will present this though?

Sounght, the owner of my soul
Did I fall fight into the spot?
Resisting the subject of my passion
Angered and shrunken
Sounght, the owner of my soul
Did I fall right into the spot?
Resisting, resisting, resisting...
Raise me
Don’t make me cry
Where is the love
You’re so proud of
Raise me
Don’t make me cry
Don’t waste my time
With fake dreams

Nice to hear!
Another thing to mention was that it was European Capital of Culture in (I belive) 1990
Now we have a city, I hope the couple for the UK will be Alesha Dixon and Matthew Cutler. They deserve it.
I wouldn't travel to the EDC, but if it's in our own backyard, then we have to support it! I'll be there! And Polo Lounge afterwards!

well good for scotland
Go Glasgow!
A possible venue is The Braehead Arena.

thanks!
I have a suspicion they may host the event at the SECC, which is a famous armadillo effect building which is situated by the River Clyde. This is where they host concerts at what not. Alternatively it may be the Royal Concert Hall which is on Buchanan Street in Glasgow and close to the bus station and rail networks. I actually think it will be the latter, to be honest.
Will the contest take place in an arena?
Aaaah great!!! I love watching a eurovision event from the UK, and i'm glad its going to Glasgow.
And I think EDC is far better than JESC, because the people that participate in EDC, are actually good dancers!!! Whereas JESC provides us with kids that really shouldn't be there!
Anyway theres always something special about seeing eurovision come from your country . . . . . .does anybody agree?
And does anybody know where it will be hosted in Glasgow?? Maybe it will be held in a theatre, or a small arena this year, instead of a TV studio
Eurovision dance Contest is great! It was very nice to watch it last year... actulallly for me it was as good or better than ESC 2007
I think the EDC is boring and a waste of money, and I don't think Sweden will compete due to the low interest and pad result last year. Well, I don't know what tv4 expected, when they sent two amateurs to compete... I like Glasgow though, it would be a nice venue for the ESC in the future!
Wales ignored again! Just as well tho based on the dull presentation last year...
Well, fair enough, but I think Helsinki should have hosted it.
I guess the riots in Manchester must have been set up by the Glaswegians to put Manchester out of the running
