Israeli website Walla.co.il reports today that about 700 songs have been submited to be among the 5 songs Boaz Mauda will sing in his private national final, Kdam-Eurovision 2008.

According to this report, about 700 compositions have been submited to IBA's and Channel 2 committee, which has the task to narrow them down to a 5 entries race. It appeares to be that this jury was overwhelmed with the large number of entries and their quality, to the extent that the members were not able to meet the deadline they set for themselves, since 'there are just too many good songs', as they put it themselves. There have been reports in the Israeli media of various artists and composers who sent their entries for Mauda, among them are the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest winner, Dana International, and Moshe Datz who was half of the Duo Datz in 1991.

It expected that the 5 final entries will be picked by the end of the week. It should be noted that 700 entries is indeed an astonishing number. This record number was barely reached, even during the Kdam-Eurovision's glory days, back in the 1980's and 1990's.

The commitee consists of 7 members, 4 of them are from Channel 2 and the rest are from IBA, among them is Yoav Ginay, IBA's head of delegation to the Eurovision Song Contest. The 2008 Kdam-Eurovision is expected to be held at the end of February.
