Denmark 2014: 4 cities and 4 venues bid to host Eurovision

A total of 4 cities along with their 4 respective venues are ready to submit their bid to host the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest.

Horsens (Horsens Prison), Copenhagen( Parken Stadium), Herning ( Jyske Bank Boxen Arena) and  Fredericia ( Messe C Arena) are all set to officially bid to host the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest. One of them will be the lucky host city to welcome Europe to the biggest television musical extravanganza next year!

Fredericia is very much in the race too!

Fredericia is still in the race for the 2014 Eurovision host city. Fredericia’s municipality will officially submit their bid by tomorrow.

On Wednesday afternoon, the municipality has met and finally decided to submit a proposal for DR.  It will be a joint bid from our region. I can’t tell you  more on the matter  right now .Ms Pia Becker goes on to add

From 8000 to 38000 guests

Four cities are in the big race to host the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest – three of them in Jutland.

Fredericia will be bidding with Messe C Arena with a  seating for 8000 spectators.Horsens are all set to bid with Horsens Prison which will overlay the courtyard of the prison in order to accomodate the spectators with a capacity of   13,000 standing guests. Herning is bidding with the Jyske Boxen Arena with a seating 15,000 seating ,where this year’s Danish Eurovision national final-  The 2013 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix was held.

Last and not least Copenhagen,is bidding with the Denmark’s national stadium the  Parken Stadium, with a capacity of 38,000 guests. This venue played host to the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest and retains the record for the highest amount of attendants  in the contest till today when 38,000 guests graced the occasion. It is yet unclear if the whole stadium will be used for the contest if Copenhagen wins the bid. Copenhagen has already hosted the Eurovision Song Contest twice before in 1964 and in 2001. The Danish capital also hosted the 5oth Eurovision Song Contest anniversary show Congratulations in 2005.

There are 4 cities currently who have shown interest to bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest next year. DR, the Danish national broadcaster has announced on its official website that no decision has been made  regarding the host city and hence no negotiations have taken place yet.

We are in a dialogue phase, not at the negotiating stage yet.And out of respect for the various candidates we are working on it confidentially- Pernille Gaardbo, the executive producer for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest has commented regarding the selection of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest host city.

Messe C Arena in Fredericia with a capacity of 8,000 spectators

The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 13,15, 17 May in Denmark.  DR has until next fall to select and announce the host city.

Herning’s Jyske Boxen Arena with a capacity of 15,000 spectators
