The submissions for the forthcoming Maltese selection opened today. Past Eurovision hopefuls including Fabrizio Faniello (2001 & 2006) and Ludwig Galea (2004) are amongst those expected to submit an entry in an attempt to represent the country again.

The list also includes Kevin Borg who is notable for his success after winning Swedish idol four years ago. The fact the next Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Sweden Borg can convince the country and win the right to fly the Maltese flag in Malmö.

The next Maltese selection will be similar to that organised for this year with a semi-final and a final show will pick up Malta’s entrant to Malmö.

The songs submitted will be judged on CD by a panel of jury and 24 songs will qualify to the semi-final show. Then 16 entries will qualify to the final. The Maltese hopeful will get selected through a mixture of jury and public vote.

In it’s regulations, PBS said that the last five Maltese representatives are not allowed to compete in the selection. All lead singers should be Maltese while foreign composers and authors are allowed to compete.

Malta came close three times in winning the Eurovision Song Contest and this year Kurt Calleja managed to qualify to the final but couldn’t finish better than 21st in the final in Baku. Submissions will close tomorrow at 16:00 CET.
