The Lithuanian representative Vilija Matačiūnaitė has received the prize for the worst dressed artist in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest.

Vilija Matačiūnaitė did not make it to the Grand Final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. Nevertheless, her performance of the entry Attention seems to have made an impression; not necessarily a good one, though. Her black and green leather outfit, crowned with a black tutu, has earned her this year’s Barbara Dex Award.

Vilija’s fashion style was commented by the press and the fans during the Contest. And the tutu, specifically, did not go unnoticed.

She was not the only one considered for this accolade, as other participants in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest were voted for it, as well. The top ten was left as follows:

  1. Lithuania – 311 votes
  2. Italy – 90 votes
  3. Moldova – 90 votes
  4. Georgia – 76 votes
  5. Albania – 64 votes
  6. France – 56 votes
  7. F.Y.R. Macedonia – 52 votes
  8. Ireland – 52 votes
  9. Poland – 40 votes
  10. Germany – 30 votes

The award is named after the Belgian entrant in the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest. Barbara Dex sang then Iemand als jij, ending last with 3 points. She is remembered for the outfit she wore on stage that year. The dress was designed by her, but it did not please the audience or the fans. Her choice granted her the dubious honor of naming the award for the worst dress allocated every year by the fan site eurovisionhouse.nl since 1997.

Vilija Matačiūnaitė sang Attention for Lithuania in the second semi-final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest.
