Karolina Goceva will represent F.Y.R. Macedonia in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki with Mojot svet. This was decided during the national final tonight. The singer reached an impressive victory: For the first time, regional voting was used. Karolina managed to get the top mark from each and every city which means 144 points in total.

Karolina is familiar with the Eurovision Song Contest: In 2002 she has already represented her country with the song Od nas zavisi which only finished 19th out of 24 competing countries. At the end of the page, you can watch that performance once again.

Karolina Gočeva got her first big break at the age of 11 when she performed at various music festivals. Her career was just starting, so she used the national festivals to promote her voice and talent. She became a regular participant in SkopjeFest, debuting in 1994. In the following years she participated successfully, especially when SkopjeFest was used to choose the Macedonian Eurovision Song Contest entry. In 1996, shetook partwith Ma, ajde kai mi (Come on, tell me) and reached 9th place. In 1998, she participated with Ukradeni noќi (Stolen nights) and was more successful, reaching 4th place with 10,454 televotes.

Some controversy surrounded Karolina participation in 2002 because of thelanguage of the song. MKTV submitted the participation form with the performing language selected as Macedonian. Karolina and her record label thought that this would be a handicap and that Karolina should sing in English so she could successfully compete with the other nations. MKTV dragged out the incident, threatening to send 2nd placed performer Andrijana Janevska if Karolina did not sing in Macedonian. (information taken from wikipedia.com)

Since the semi final was introduced in 2004, F.Y.R. Macedonia's Euovision Song Contest story seems like a roller coaster: Every year, they reached the top10 in the qualifier round but failed to qualify for the next edition in the final round. Nevertheless, in 2006 the best result so far came: Elena Risteska finished 12th in the final with Ninanajna. Still, a 12th place means entering the semi final once again in Helsinki.
