Legendary pop group ABBA are getting their own museum in Stockholm, Sweden. Entrepreneurs Ewa Wigenheim-Westman and Ulf Westman already got the idea when they visited the Beatles museum in Liverpool a few years ago. Ewa initially brought up the idea with Benny Andersson, with whom she had worked previously.

ABBA -the Museum will not onlybe a modern museum filled with ABBA’s music, original clothes, history, images, instruments and much more that captures the group’s heyday in the 70s and 80s but also an interactive experience where people can participate with all their senses. The initiators hope that it will become a huge touristic attraction, counting on 500,000 visitors annually after opening in 2008.

Although it took some time to convince the whole group, ABBA have approved the project and will make material available to the museum, butthey areotherwise not involved. 'It’s great that someone feels like taking on our musical history and making it accessible,' Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Reuss said in a joint statement. 'We have a lot of confidence in Ewa and Ulf and we hope and believe that it will be a fun and groovy museum to visit.'

ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with the song Waterloo which was their first big international hit. During the Congratulations show in Copenhagen in 2005, this song was voted the best song in the contest ever. With 370 million records sold, the group is among the most succesful acts ever in musical history. Today, 25 years after they been seen on stage together for the last time, they still sell a couple million albums a year.

Last year, Abba released 'The Complete Studio Recordings', a special limited edition box set containing unheard, unusual and special version of their music.
