Malena Ernman has released a single from her brand new, forthcoming Christmas album.
The single is a cover of the Rogers and Hammerstein show tune, You’ll never walk alone, from the 1945 musical, Carousel. The album it’s been taken from is I Decembertid, available from 13 November.
I Decembertid is Malena Ernman’s first album since 2011’s Opera di fiori and has been produced by Anders Hansson. Hansson has also been behind several entrants to Sweden’s Melodifestivalen, including Lena Philipsson’s Dansa I neon in 1987 and Det gör ont which won the competition in 2004 and finished in fifth place in that year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul. More recently, he wrote the song Love, love, love, which was performed by Agnes and finished in eighth place in Melodifestivalen 2009, the same year the competition was won by Malena Ernman herself with La Voix.
I choose to work with some of my closest friends on the album, Malena said of her latest project. Together we’d tried to create that kind of record myself would actually want to listen to. I Decembertid is made purely out of how we wanted it to become.
The album is her second Christmas-themed release. In 2010, her Santa Lucia – en klassisk jul, a collection of traditional Christmas songs and classical arias reached the number two spot in the Swedish album charts. Her new Christmas album will be supported by a concert tour through Sweden this coming December.
Malena Ernman represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow 2009 with La Voix. She finished in 21st place with 33 points.
