Horsens is the 5th city to enter the race to host the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest next year. Horsens joins Fredericia, Copenhagen, Aalborg and Herning in their quest to become the forthcoming Eurovision host city.

If Horsens wins the bid, the Eurovision Song Contest could be held at the local  state prison with 10,000 standing spectators. What do you think of a Eurovision behind bars? It is very unlikely that the the Danish national broadcaster will opt for this venue taking into account that the Eurovision Song Contest has never been held in an open air arena.

I think  that if DR dare to go out of the total fixed framework,  it’s a good idea to do it here at the prison,-Frank Panduro, the manager of the prison in Horsens told  TV2 East Jutland.

Do something different

The former state prison in the eastern city is today an outdoor venue. You can easily hold the world’s largest TV show here, if you want to do something different!

You may need to start doing something else,  Panduro adds .

Unrealistic under the open sky

We should remember that back in 2005, 2007 and 2008 Horsens hosted the Danish Melodi Grand Prix. But it is not realistic that Horsens will get to host the  Eurovision Song Contest next year,- Johann Sorensen , the chairman of  theEurovision fan club shares his thoughts about Horsens bid.

I doubt that the EBU will approve  a prison in Horsens to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. Taking into account that the stage has to be set up in the open air under the open sky, and it’s a bit difficult to produce such a great television show in an outdoor arena, when one can’t be sure of the weather conditions!-Johann Sorensen  toldTV2 East Jutland.

DR: Herning and Copenhagen are not the only options

I think Herning is the favorite to host  the contest next year. The Jyske Bank Boxen, an arena the size of the Malmö Arena, which this year hosted the Eurovision Song Contest would be ideal.I know that all the hotels in Herning are currently booked, so this only suggests that they are counting on Herning next year! – Johann Sørensen goes on to mention

The race is on and nothing has been decided by DR, the Danish national broadcaster. Currently there are 5 cities that have entered the race to host the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest: Herning, Horsens,Copenhagen, Fredericia and Aalborg.  DR will evaluate all applications and options and will make a deliberation after studying all the submitted bids thoroughly.
