Former Romanian participants Luminita Anghel and Nicola were amongst the line-up in a charity telethon organised by the public television channel TVR on Thursday. The event, rounding of the week-long initiative Romania for Europe's children, raised over one million euros for good causes.

Three and a half hours of live television on TVR's main channel included performances by Luminita, who achieved Romania's highest ever Eurovision Song Contest placing of third in 2005, and Nicola, who managed a respectable tenth place for the country in 2003. They were joined by numerous popular Romanian acts including Pepe, Dida Dragan, Corina and Vank. Thanks to their efforts, Romanian viewers pledged 150,000 euros by the end of the evening.

The event was part of a fund-raising week which began with a star-studded gala dinner at the Palace of Parliament. Guest of honour was J. K. Rowling, British author of the Harry Potter series of books.

Romania is a direct qualifier for the international final in Athens this year, thanks to Luminita's success in Kyiv last year.
